The Washington Post Eats Crow
Hey all. Check out my co-written op-ed in today's Washington Post. I think after all that Charlotte Allen nonsense, they decided they better include some feminist voices in the page--a silver lining of sorts. It's a call for keeping our eyes on the prize with respect to the presidential election, penned with one of my favorite ladies, Deborah Siegel, of Girl with Pen and Sisterhood Interrupted.

That was like me having a conversation with myself! Seriously great article that said a lot of things that needed to be said.
Another great one, Courtney. It makes me so frustrated that it is even a question if one can vote for Obama and be a feminist. Feministing and articles like your op-ed keep me sane.
that op-ed was really wonderful. Thanks for being sane and clear.
Seriously, until I get an apology for the Allen piece, WaPo can bite me.
I'm a young woman for Hillary. I've never accused anyone of being anti-feminist for voting for Obama. Unless they vote for him for sexist reasons.
I always resent the idea that people think I'm going to attack them immediately, though. I was talking to a guy in class who dislikes Hillary and the first thing he said was "it's not, like, because she's a woman or anything" though the reasons he gave were still a little sexist in nature (all that crapola about her being "too political" and "too tough" and all that. My response was, well, yeah she's political, she's a fucking politician, Obama's political too but no one criticizes him for it). Which made me sad because I wouldn't have expected that from this particular guy.
Anyhoo, it's a great article. Though the WaPo is still not redeemed.
Great article, Courtney. This whole Charlotte Allen thing was driving me nuts. I didn't get on to the Post website in time to be a part of the Q & A section but after reading her responses, I realized that she just doesn't understand the way the world works. That's too bad, really.
Still, I'm glad that you guys are taking her on openly. She definitely deserves it.
Great article, Courtney. What a treat to see something sensible in the Washington Post for a change.
I'm a Second Wave, white, working-class-born feminist with a 50th birthday fast approaching -- and a staunch Obama supporter. And I'm getting truly weary of the media narrative in which all older feminists walk lock-step in supporting Clinton, while all younger feminists support only Obama, or that there's any such thing as a feminist party line that we're all supposed to toe. Thanks for setting the record straight, and doing so with wit and grace.
Spot-on! Thank you for that breath of fresh air. We CAN all get along. And even when we have vigorous, passionate, even angry disagreements, as I've seen happen between feminists and others over the primary, that doesn't mean we're taking away anyone's feminist card, nor that we won't support the candidate that's best for women in November.
