Apparently men are now 8 yr olds. This is insulting to everyone.
is this really in front of a store or just an ad?
I'm not sure I get it. Is it just the obvious, middle school "mirror helps you look up women's skirts" jokes, or am I missing something?
I don't see any reason to doubt it, within the context.
Stay classy, Playboy, stay classy. (sarcasm, in case this is not clear.)
Definitely un-funny. But clickign through the link it looked like this was from 2006?
That *looks* like the Playboy HQ building in Chicago. Not positive though.
Yup, 2006. But I never saw it before, so I thought it was still worth posting.
Ha, I usually wear jeans and my boyfriend usually wears kilts. Guess whose skirt they'd be looking up if we walked over it?
How is that legal? Vandalism would definitely be in order.
You're right, it's not meant to be funny; rather, it's there for the very obvious reason.
If I can read the text on the ad properly, it looks like an ad for "Playboy: The Mansion. Now Available."
So, it's the double-wammy. Offensive ad for a sexist video game.
Hooray.
Men are so immature. I find this very offensive.
melissapeachy Your joking right? Or did you just say a sexist comment on a feminist web page? to blame all of men for this or to even say women would not find this funny or do this is to be extremely sexist, you yourself are creating gender roles, and as MAN i will tell you know that me and my friends do not find this in any way funny or pleasant, HA my coworker who is a girl does not see the problem with this add so there you have it, stop judging it on just it being a man, and i hope you never say again "men are immature" because its people like you that will hold back this society from viewing people as individuals and not just genders/sex acting there roles
yah playboy is a piece of crap.. i made a youtube rant video about it if anyone is interested... feel free to rate it even if you hate it!

This is so unbelievably immature and offensive. What's next, "accidentally" spraying women with water for some sort of a screwed up "wet t-shirt contest"?
There's no way that's legal, right?
Hey, if she didn't want you to see it, she wouldn't be wearing a skirt, right? And she wouldn't be standing on a mirror! And she wouldn't have a vagina! She's asking for it.
I think it has to be illegal. "Upskirt" photography/videography is, and this mirror scheme would facilitate that.
Oh, but facilitating illegal activity isn't a crime...I can sell you my .45, even though you might rob a bank. People are so dumb. (btw...I'm totally not against guns, that's just the first comparison that came to mind.)
1. Don't insult men with this ad. It calls men immature and disgusting, and I would be completely offended if I was a guy.
2. Obviously offensive to women. Duh.
Okay. That's all.
This ad kinda defeats the idea that Playboy runs when they have their "Girls on Campus" etc stuff. They always emphasize that being in Playboy is a "fantasy" that these women supposedly want to engage in. This ad is nonconsensual and voyeristic.
And, sorry, but on the level of marketing, the ad totally doesn't work, because the only time people would "get it" is when they're standing above it, and the target demo is dudes.
I'm such a cynic, I thought "At least the model is wearing panties."
This, and other offensive Playboy ad campaigns are preserved at the following site:

I'm fine with the existence of Playboy. The women who pose for it are consenting adults. This is not consensual. Thus, this is sexual harassment.
Not to mention it demeans the maturity levels of men. I mean, how satisfying can it rally be to look up the skirt of a woman without her knowledge? Unless you're some kind of voyeur.
Liza,
I suspect it's as much about the perverse thrill of degrading women by doing something that objectifies them without their knowledge as it is about the pleasure of actually looking up the skirt of a woman wearing panties for a second.
Nonconsensual voyeurism, for the record, is really fucking bad, as in "has been linked by psychiatric professionals to other nonconsensual sex acts committed on unsuspecting or unwilling human beings" bad. Not for everybody, but certainly there have been many recorded cases of voyeurs who used their voyeurism to warm up and practice for worse sexual violence.
When Playboy condones this sort of voyeurism, they are condoning sexual violence. And I love it when people actually notice that mainstream porn condones sexual violence.
cant they be sued for this?! Sexual harassment?! Even if all the women who go in there where bunnys who pose nude, that doesn't mean they want themselves exposed when they dont intend to be!!!
The "ad" is just begging for someone to "accidentally" spill a can of paint as they cross the threshold. Oopsie.
was this actually installed and used there or was it just a set-up and shoot?
Sera,
I agree with you regarding violence and porn.
I wanna say that commented something to that extent a few months ago on another posting but I felt like i got flamed.. I glad it has been said again.
Is this even a real ad, or another fake? If fake that would be the third fake ad people have been outraged over lately...
"I suspect it's as much about the perverse thrill of degrading women by doing something that objectifies them without their knowledge"
Really? Without their knowledge? It's a HUGE mirror. With a label. You can plead "women shouldn't have to walk around this" (which is a different load of crap), but you certainly can't plead "women can't see this gigantic fucking mirror".
jer,
I was referring to the general idea of looking up a woman's skirt without her knowledge in response specifically to Liza's comment. As to this particular thing, I don't see how any guy could actually view it unless there was a camera above (which is the implication of the photo angle) or below, or they stood around all day next to it, which is hilarious. Though, I can easily see a lot of people walking over this thing without "getting it". It may be a "HUGE" mirror to you, but I think you'd be surprised. A lot of people don't really look down on what they're walking on.
