The Geena Davis Excuse
K-Lo declares that the real reason people say they aren't ready for a female president is... bad Lifetime movie portrayals of female presidents.
Because we all know that sexism has nothing to do with it. Nah, it's because people don't want life to imitate crappy TV dramas.

This is my favorite part:
"She'd be whiny and annoying and the embodiment of identity politics (as I said, whiny and annoying) — if some of the pop culture examples are any indication."
Because we know how realistic pop culture is.
Well in that case we should elect Martin Sheen as president. I loved the West Wing.
*rolls eyes*
Is as legit as the Kevin Kline excuse for not voting for another white male...
personally, i'll happily vote for a woman candidate provided the woman running doesn't use "women" as code for "white women, then all the others". That would give me a sense that she'd be willing to address issues across all communities consistently and not just when it makes for good PR.
The phrase "people say they aren't ready for a female president," sort of implies that it's a substantial portion of the citizenry who feel that way. I don't believe that's accurate. I think it's a tiny minority, who think that if they shout loud enough, people will think they're a legitimate faction.
I'm not surprised that the NRO printed this article; they thrive on this kind of shit.
So then...will Geena Davis be drafted as a catcher in the MLB soon? I mean, if movies are so true, we needn't limit it to politics.
This guy is so biased that he himself is a lie. And the Martin Sheen and Kevin Kline counterexample was good. If this guy takes Lifetime seriously, then we should all worry if he's in the dating pool. (Lifetime-the misandric women's channel-frequently depicts men as abusive pigs, maybe he got a lot of ideas.)
But on a serious note, he's like one of those parents who blame "the media, violence, etc.", so that they can find excuses to deny the fact that they're just lousy parents. He says, "I'm not a loser sexist, but..."
Ugh, why don't these people just show their true colors for once, instead of lashing out from a hole like a coward?
Gee, I liked Commander-in-Chief. What a jerk!
And what's with this supposed "Years" of female presidents depcited in the media she's talking about? If you count shows that actually reach a wide audience Commander-in-Chief is the only one I can think of.
Um, K-Lo appears to be a woman, making that column even more disturbing.
I hated CIC. It bothered me that Geena Davis only got to be president because the previous president died. God forbid she was elected.
Well, duh! The whole reason women are portrayed as crappy presidents in movies is--BECAUSE OF SEXISM. wtf does she think that proves?
Only 64 percent of men and 65 percent of women believe the nation is ready for a woman POTUS.
Shameful.
since the survey asked whether or not the participant felt the country was ready for a female president (vs. would vote for one), i like to hope that it's illustrative of the participants lack of confidence in particular citizens rather than their own particular biases. guess i'm just trying to look at the glass half full. i personally think that if you would exclude someone as a candidate based solely on their gender or race, you need your right-to-vote revoked :p.

Jesus, that's a LOT worse than I thought. Of course, if you take into account the 25% or whatever it is now still support The Decider - they're probably the same people who think we aren't ready for a woman President - that 64-65% looks a little better. Still not good enough, though.
I absolutely HATE any question that asks "are we ready for a (insert woman or minority here) president?" What is that supposed to mean? Let's call it how it is: Is this country still too sexist for a woman president? What's this bullshit about being "ready"? Like the solution isn't to examine our sexisms, but instead, that we just need to marinate the idea a little, get used to the idea, that somehow the passage of time will solve this problem, that we shouldn't get mad if women can't get elected because maybe we're just rushing the process a little? Jesus Christ! This shit isn't about time! It's about us living in a backward society. Get over yourselves. If we aren't "ready," we better get the fuck ready.
Ok. Rant over. And Geena Davis was a kick ass tv president. I don't even know what this douche is talking about. Ok. Now rant is over.

I agree. I would vote for a woman, but I would need to wonder how many others would accept a woman, before answering. A better question would be, would you be willing to vote for a female candidate for President, if it were to be asked. I believe it deserves asking. If significantly greater than 50% of people planning to vote say no, they would not vote for a woman (or Sen. Clinton specifically) at any time before election day, the probability of winning is not good. Those planning on running may need to rethink their strategy, like ways to emphasize the merits of their candidate to win support, which may include recognizing her womanhood or being a mother.

Oh! Yeah, Just realized "Kathryn". ^^; That really is disturbing; one has to wonder what the hell goes on in this woman's mind, when she watches Lifetime (also other sexist media) and accepts it as fact. This is a disturbing trend for EVERY woman living in the U.S., having to see this crap. Thank God for Feministing.
