I think the issue here is more mysogynistic bad habits sneaking in, due to rage (rage at something which is legitimate to be enraged about). Basically, people just need education on their own prejudices, even if those prejudices are only revealed in moments of passion.

But yes, calling a woman, even one who is complicit in such a horrific incident as the Arar case, a "cow" is out of line.
