The pro-fetus movement

If you're outside the womb, forget the support of the National Right to Life Committee. The group won't lend its support to the S-CHIP bill.

Initially, they wouldn't sign on to the legislation because it included coverage for pregnant women, not for fetuses specifically. (As if fetuses exist separately from pregnant women...) But with that provision stripped, NRLC still won't support S-CHIP. Anti-abortion Democrats aren't pleased, and sent a letter to the group telling them so. But the NRLC legislative director explained,

“There’s nothing there [in the SCHIP bill] for us to really grab onto.

And,

"They had their chance to put something in there for the pro-life community, and they batted it down."

Because there's nothing for the "pro-life" community in a bill that protects children's health. They clearly have zero interest in that.

This, combined with the post below are just unbelievable! Both show the outright distain and distrust that this administration and it's "base" supporters (like people in the NRLC) have for women.

How on EARTH can the NRLC not jump all over any and every legislation that ensures children's health (and life!)? It's mind boggling. Not to mention that they didn't want to support the bill when it offered support for pregnant women. Perhaps women might be more inclined to go through with their pregnancy IF THEY HAD SOME KIND OF HEALTH COVERAGE.

So, they want to force every woman to carry every pregnancy she has, no matter what, but they don't want to either support her while she does or the child, after it's born?

This reminds me of the Mr. Show sketch (it starts in earnest at about 0:45) where there was a pre-natal pageant; the redneck parents were so concerned with in utero care and costumes that they had clearly lost all interest in their 4-year-old, calling her "old baby."

What a substantial piece of evidence that I can use for anyone who doesn't believe me when I tell them "pro-life" is a lie, because they don't care about life at all. So terribly sad that these people don't utilize the brains 'god gave them' and instead make emotional decisions based on something someone told them, using religion as the excuse. It wouldn't be so sad if they didn't affect people's lives and health in such a detrimental way...
Congress has one more chance to turn Bush's veto around on this bill tomorrow. If you have two minutes, write to your congress men and women and urge them to support this important bill!!

So in other words, they pretty much define "life" as "existing inside a uterus."

Then NRLC and pro-life groups like them should stop calling embryos and fetuses "children." They should also not call themselves National Right to Life. If they're going to believe that we have a right to life, then they should support all legislation that saves lives.

I agree, FEMily!. The NRLC should be called the National Right to Take Away Women's Liberties Committee.

I'm looking for the study that investigated crisis pregnancy centers, and found them to be false and misleading. My local newspaper recently ran an article titled," Cowboys Ride To Support Women," which is about a group of cowboys who are raising funds for a crisis pregnancy center. I want to write a letter to the editor, and thought that the 'crisis pregnancy center investigation study' would be a good source. I've checked the 'search' on feministing, but have not been able to bring it up.
Thanks

Google "Crisis Pregnancy Centers" +investigations and you'll come up with a ton of articles, Gopher.

yeah, because that "unborn child" language - which, while they couldn't codify it, was still compromised in there - was just not good enough.

Thanks, thats been alot of help. I found information about the NY attorney general who investigated complaints from women about crisis pregnancy centers, and the "An Affront to Choice" study done by US National Abortion Federation.
