Quick Hit: UK docs don't back current abortion law
A new survey out of the UK shows that over half of general practitioners believe that the okay of just one doctor should be enough for a woman to get an abortion. Right now, a woman has to convince two doctors that carrying her pregnancy to term would be a health risk.

That’s interesting.
In Canada, New Brunswick is the only province that requires the two doctor sign off on it being deemed “medically necessary (open-ended terminology), but this is to have it covered by Medicare (it has to be performed by a gynaecologist in a hospital setting for it to be covered as well).
You can still travel great lengths and pay over $500 to have it done in a clinic.
"The survey also found most doctors were in favour of being able to have free abortions on the NHS."
I hope something happens in regard to this as well.
You dont really need to 'convince' 2 doctors. Its an archaic sounding stipulation because the original laws permitting abortion are so old. You talk to your GP about your options and are then referred to a clinic if that is your choice, or you can go direct to the clinic. The signature of 2 docs happens whilst the rest is being organised. The additional paperwork is unnecessary for most GPs.
I love to see progress in this area especially cos of the recent glut of challenges to reproductive rights around the world that we hear about.
