Another reason I love Jon Stewart

He gave Chris Matthews (who thinks vaginas are debate-stoppers) the interview he deserved. I was dying laughing last night.

Dumb belligerence is totally the key for white males. Belligerent feminism, however, ahh, not so much, again proving how competent we really are when compared to these fools. I love how Jon laughs with the "oh my Godddd" after he answers with "That's called the Bible! It's been written!" What a doofus. And he's got a WINNING laugh, that Chris Matthews. Makes me want to kick a dog.

Thanks for the laugh!! What a great way to start my day!!!!

I love that Jon Stewart giggles like my three year old daughter sometimes--and I really love it when he does it to Chris Matthews.

Man, what a nimrod. Did he even hear himself? "Do YOU want to be a success? Do YOU want to have friends? Do YOU want a reputation?" Dude, you're talking to Jon f-ing Stewart; he has the calibre of success, friends and reputation you have wet dreams about, and he didn't do it by being a soulless, miserable "campaigner." You just proved your thesis as totally ridiculous and painted yourself a fool.

In other news, if people are going to roast Hilary for her laugh, can we do the same for Mathews? He sounds like a nasal swan blowing his nose.

Huh, I never knew Chris Matthews was so.... goofy.

Jon Stewart, I heart you.

I can't tell you how much I frickin love Jon Stewart. He is SO cute.
Jessica, you need to get on his show!

Chris Matthews on the other hand. ::shudder:: His laugh!

I love the "You're afraid of this book"..."I'm afraid of fascism!" exchange. Classic.

(And Chris Matthews thinks his book is better than Machiavelli's. (!!!) Although does he know Machiavelli wrote The Prince? I kinda doubt it)

Man, I was really hoping Jon was going to call him out for his sexism, but it was still worth it!

Wow. He just eviscerates Matthews. I've been unimpressed with Matthew's sexism since watching the election returns on MSNBC and hearing him describe it "harder" for Hillary to give a speech because she's a woman. I even blogged about it with an audio clip here.

The actual quote: "We were watching Hillary Clinton earlier tonight and she was giving a campaign barn burner speech, which is harder to give for a women, it can grate on some men when they listen to it....fingernails on a blackboard perhaps...."

Man, that was like great sex.

I get so used to seeing softball interviews that I was waiting the whole time for Stewart to let him off the hook. And he didn't! It was amazing.

I like it better when Stewart gets into a debate with a worthy opponent, but this was satisfying too.

God, I love Jon Stewart even more. (He's also rockin' the gray hair. For realz).

Also, Chris Matthews' laugh brings to mind that line in "Fight Club"--You have kind of a sick desperation in your laugh. Ughhhh.

I love Jon Stewart and I did think this interview was funny, but I wasn't sure what to make of the giggling (no gendered overtones intended). I found it off-putting.

My favorite part was when Matthews suggests listening to women is a strategy that works to get them into bed. Stewart, "... It works if you care what they're saying."

I don't have cable and so do not get to watch the Daily Show, so thanks for posting that!

I so dislike Chris Matthews, this was great.

Oh wow --- Chris Matthews' laugh alone is reason enough to avoid the book, nevermind the soulless message he's promoting.

my favorite, in reference to this forum... "Everything about getting... the girl of your dreams... is a campaign." i mean, really, along with "getting jobs, getting promotions, selling products..."

women are just another commodity. that's awesome.

i also love how this guy who wrote a book about "how to win", effectively, who consistently gave up and whined through the entire interview.

you figure if you write an instruction book on fascism, you should be able to roll with the punches and dominate a conversation, but chris matthews is just a loser who figures he can make it big by justifying the worst qualities of humankind.

awesome.

and, liz, you know you can view a lot of clips on comedy central's website... it's pretty awesome... check it out... no commercials (just popups and banner ads, as if that's any better)

wow...i totally love jon stewart...i watch two shows regularly, his, and the colbert report...

i know it's bad form to make fun of someone's laugh...but didn't his sound fake and nervous? honestly it kind of creeped me out...maybe HIS life is a campaign...a string of empty promises to accomplish whatever he thinks he is entitled to. (including, apparently, women...cuz we are just another prize to be won on the trail!)

i imagine that if stewart went on hardball, it would be a lot like his appearance on crossfire, where they thought he was going to be a clown and he totally schooled them:

so i say bring it on!

I'm so used to Stewart being soft on his interviewees that this was a major surprise... and delight. I so hate books which advise people that the way to success is to be fake and manipulate others.

And yeah, I noticed the "win the girl of your dreams" remark, too. So he's 1. Solely aiming his book at heterosexual men and 2. viewing women as prizes. Yay.

Yeah, that was amazing; Jon Stewart almost never yells at his guests. I think the whole "life as competition" thing is capitalism's fault. "I'm not trashing your book, I'm trashing your philosophy of life." Hell yeah.

I hope Stewart does go on Hardball, because I would love to see him smack down Matthews the way he did Carlson. You know, again. Call me, Jon!

"I don't troll." Too awesome. I love that Jon Stewart has been so honest in his interviews lately, it makes the show even better than it's ever been. Thanks for posting, I can't believe I missed this one!

I love Jon Stewart and I did think this interview was funny, but I wasn't sure what to make of his giggling (no gendered overtones intended). I found it off-putting.

I thought his laugh was adorable, myself. =)

Does this clip cover after the end of the inteview, when the music flows over what looks like Chris Matthews mouthing "Fuck you" several times.

Another great argument on your part, Chris.

There were so many good lines. The troll one, the trashing your philosophy of life, and when Matthews asked him if he wanted to be successful and he said he already was. Wonderful. But I still wish Stewart and Colbert would have more women on their shows.

I don't watch Hardball, so it was really hard for me to not think this was a Saturday Night Live skit with Darrell Hammond. When you out-absurd your parodist, that's saying something.

Also, mad props for Stewart pointing out that "they wrote that book too. It's called The Prince."

I'm not sure which made me laugh harder: ". . . I HAVE SUCCEEDED!!!" or "I don't troll." Jon was sure as hell on point. I have to say that I was kind of hoping he would just spend the whole interview telling Chris Matthews how good looking he is and that he's god's gift to men so that he can see how it feels, but I think that Stewart handled it on his own. And that's why I love him. I mean, the man laughs out loud at the mere mention of the Bible. What's not to love?

I think Stewart is like the only older man who I am madly in love with.

Jon Stewart. The REAL silver fox.

I adore Jon Stewart's laugh. In fact, I adored this whole interview. I'm so glad there's someone out there who's not afraid of being real.

I love how when Jon Steward suggests chapters telling people to "be good; be competant," Matthews just hears the first part and jumps to the Bible. That's the culture war right there - the liberal is focused on whether or not you can do you job well and the conservative wants to know if you read the Bible.

I've been lurking here for months, but Jon has pulled me out of lurkdom to say: Is this the same Chris Matthews that made fun of Hillary Clinton for her "cackle"? If so, then... well, pot, guess what.

I love Jon Stewart.

And Chris Matthews just looked like petty and pathetic and just a smidge dumb.

The only thing that would have made the interview better is if Jon Stewart had called Chris Matthews a "dick" on national television.

I've had a crush on Jon Stewart since I was 16. He rocks the grey, slightly thinning, hair.

O.M.G.

"I don't troll." -- just amazing.

"this is the book interview from hell!" - wonderful.

Oh, Jon, *please* go on Hardball -- maybe that one will get canceled too?

(one of the lines I so remember from the Crossfire interview (besides the fact that Novak was so chickens**t scared to cross swords with Jon that he refused to on the show) was Stewart's line "you want me to do the job of hard-hitting questioning of politicians instead of you? The lead-in to *my* show is puppets making prank phone calls!" wonderful

(in other words -- Guys, do your own jobs!)

"I've had a crush on Jon Stewart since I was 16. He rocks the grey, slightly thinning, hair."
This comment goes over the ageism line.
Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are simply two of the smartest, hottest men on TV. Chris Matthews is a soulless zombie with the laugh of an automaton.

Jon Stewart is awesome. I just love that he doesn't feel the need to pander to something he doesn't agree with. How about when Matthews asked Jon "Don't you want to be successful?" Uh, Chris? I think the host of one of the most popular shows on tv and the friggin' Oscars is pretty damn successful.

I love his giggle!

I have to say if he thought this was a tough interview he would hate to be interviewed in England. Our journalists would be a lot tougher!
