Who is against Birth Control?
This question was posed rhetorically as if nobody is against birth control.
I won't go through the usual list of conservative fundamentalists, because we all know who they are, and why they say they are against all forms of birth control.
What bothers me more is the underlying patriarchal need to control women's bodies, through the direct physical means of rape and forced childbirth and through the direct social means of marriage combined with the threat of separation from ones' children through divorce.
By contrast, when women choose the time and circumstances of bearing children, we are in a much better position to exercise our own good judgment as to whether our own economic situation can support the raising of a child, and whether or not our love for our children will be used as yet a further tool of social control by our "loving" mate.
All anti-choice rules made by men are intended to exert control over womens' bodies: social, political, economic and physical.
It is a deliberate means of enforcing slavery: wage slavery, debt slavery and sex slavery. "I have to ... to get enough money to feed and house and clothe my children," are the saddest words on the planet--but music to these vicious self-serving sadistic fundamentalist "Christian" ears: these words keep wages and union membership down in their enterprises. So good for the stockholders and bankers, you know.
i thought that everyone had simply forgotten about the global gag rule.....or maybe that i dreamed up its existence.....
kudos!.....great 90 second overview!
Wagadog, that's basically what I was going to say. Actually, I was going to say "Fuck people who don't support birth control" (figuratively, of course. I would never literally fuck anyone who doesn't support reproductive rights), but you said it all much more eloquently.
I'm glad you use the phrase "sex slavery" to describe anti-choice legislation and social structures. I often use the same phrase, and for me, there's really no other way to put it. Some people might say that that's going a little overboard, but again, there's no other way to put it. A slave is someone whose life is controlled completely by someone else, and that's exactly what anti-choicers want women to be for them.
Forced pregnancies are a new form of slavery, plain and simple.
And the Global Gag Rule is another example of legalized government sex assault on women across the world.
"Forced pregnancies are a new form of slavery, plain and simple."
New? They're more like an ancient form of slavery...
Check out Jezebel.com's recent post on the connection between adolescent boys' violence against girls and the prevalence of these guys wanting to impregnate their abuse victims. Terrifying.
