» It makes sense that I found this on Feministing. from Feministe
I love Feministing for a lot of reasons. Firstly, they’re a one-stop-shop for feminist news and brief commentary — they’re more of a feminist news blog than anything else I’ve found. I read them every day for a quick heads-up on... Read More

That was really good, thanks for posting, will be putting her on my "to read" list.
Great clip! She has so many books. Anyone suggest one to start with?
Hey!
We watched this video in a class of mine last week, I loved it, but unfortunately my classmates feel like we're hearing too much from black women. Ugh.
I've read some of her books, but never actually SEEN her speak. So great. I love her even more now. Thanks for sharing!
I was trying to remember where I have heard this author's name before. Then I looked up some of her works, and realized that I read "Teaching to Transgress" in an education course I took in college.
My favorite bell hooks books are "Wounds of Passion: A Writing Life" and "Bone Black."
Thanks for bring this video to my attention, and for the book recommendations in comments. I've been meaning to read some bell hooks for ages, plus this should come in handy for college in a few months.
So why isn't she featured on those "Look who's teaching at CUNY!" ads on the subway yet?
(also, I hold out hope that Scott Lemieux will be featured in a future iteration of those ads when he gets more of a reputation).
Anyone suggest one to start with?
Just personally, the ones I like are Teaching to Transgress (a collection of essays on education), and Feminism is for Everybody: Passionate Politics. It's been suggested to me by other Women's Studies students that the Feminism book isn't quite the "introduction" to feminism she was trying to make it (too much theory), but I found it a quick and thorough tour of the basic principles I believe in, with some food for thought as well.
Also check out her children's picture books :).
Thanks for sharing, this was great.
Maybe a warning that it contains clips that could be triggering, though?
