Monday Monty Blogging and more

montyhighfive.jpg
Monty is so excited about the new ideas for expanding Feministing, he gives me a high-five.

Monty has been flattered by all of the attention he's been getting lately (at home and on the blogosphere); he tells me he wants an agent immediately.

Since a few people in comments mentioned that they didn't think it was appropriate to have personal posts (pet posts, etc) on a news blog, I'm adding a little extra to Monday Monty blogging. I wanted to use this post to relay a tremendous thank you to those who donated to Feministing this weekend after hearing about our financial woes. It's much appreciated.

On that same note, be on the lookout this week for a super duper announcement concerning the future of Feministing and the work we'd like to do expanding the site. It's gonna be awesome.

Of course Monty is excited about expanding your site! That means you will have more electrical cords to chew on, yes?

People have issues with puppy posts? People make me so sad sometimes. Do they have no joy in their lives at all?

If my vote counts at all, I say bring on the puppies. And the kitties. Pictures of cute furry things make me happy and help me deal with the crushing, depressing patriarchal oppression under which I live. :)

What kind of crazy people have a problem with the extreme adorability that is Monty? Freaks.

Meanwhile, cannot wait to hear of the site expansion news!

People have been complaining about the Monday Monty posts? What?!

OK, so how about this. Take out Monday Monty Blogging. Instead, anytime you post bad news, insert a picture of Monty at the end, so that our blood pressure can normalize again.

You will hear people simultaneously go from "Erghhh! Ahhhhha! F*ckin' sh*t!" to "Awwwwwwwww!"

I vote for keeping Monday Monty, additions or not.

Not that everything blogged about it bad news, but so much of it can be depressing... it is nice to see a cute, furry little face every now and then :)

Aww, how could anyone object to that face? We need an escape every once in a while into the land of Puppy. I say keep Monday Monty Blogging!

Those eyes are hypnotic...now I must do Monty's bidding.
Seriously, if people don't like puppy blogging then they can just hit that magical scroll button. Personally, it makes me happy to see something cute and innocent amidst all the bad news.

So much of the frustration I encounter on a day-to-day basis comes from living in an androcentric world, full of false dichotomies for women. There are few contexts in which I can assume that people know it is possible to be simultaneously gentle and competent — a devoted family member and committed professional, prone to the occasional frustration-cry and capable of overcoming obstacles nonetheless, supportive toward others and not a doormat.

This stuff weighs on me. Like every fucking day, pretty much. I find it restrictive and oppressive. I cope with it, but I don't like it.

The contexts that do allow some freedom I cherish. They are few. This is one of them.

Guess what: Being gaga over a new puppy does not preclude seriousness about one's work. It doesn't take anything away from the people who prefer to focus on more pressing matters. As Moxie Hart pointed out, we all have the power to scroll past.

I don't even like dogs. Sorry dog lovers. However, I find it comforting to be in a context in which women can express multiple aspects of their personalities without the threat of being "one of those women," whichever "those women" category happens to apply. People's bitching about the puppy love only detracts from that.

Kawaiiiii!! Monty, I send you a virtual scratching behind your ears!

Peepers; absolutely! This gets right to the heart of the matter- who gives a shit if Jessica is posting pictures of her puppy along with other intelligent, provocative posts? Jessica, dear expert of mixing the goofy with the oh so serious, fuck the haters and keep the (wonderfully calming) puppy pictures coming!

I love puppy pictures. And even if I didn't, the magic of the scroll button means I can ignore them if I so choose. WTF is wrong with people, demanding that you be a Very Serious Blogger all the time? If that's what they want, they can find other blogs or start their own. You're not under contract to only deliver non-personal news. Jeez.

Oh, and Monty is adorable.

I am the type of person who will (and has, many times) cross the street to pat a puppy. While wearing a suit.

So bring on the puppy pictures. The world needs more puppy pictures. And that is one cute puppy.

I have malamutes, and got them while they were puppies. They look like this:

(that's not mine though.)

A year and a half ago we got an Alaskan Malamute puppy. He was the cutest thing I have ever seen. He's still beautiful, but at 90 pounds, not as cute, and nowhere near as forgivable when he decides to eat the couch. Puppies are basically wonderful balls of fur and should always be shared with the world. I love your Monty posts.

I love malamutes. They don't look like real dogs, they look like something Jim Henson invented.

I've been enjoying the photos of Monty. He's adorable! Who wouldn't be cheered just by looking at his fuzzy little face? That being said, I just read in Broadsheet how you've been having trouble with this, Jessica, and I wish you both the best. Your decisions are yours alone. I hope you keep posting his pictures.

Jessica -

Is Monty an Australian Shepard (with Blue Merle coloring)? I have two Aussies (one 14 year old Blue Merle & one 7 year old Red Tri). I love this breed so much. They are so intelligent, loving, loyal, human-like. My Blue Merle, I swear she is a human soul reincarnated in a dog's body. If she gets mad at you, she'll give you a dirty look. Ha :)

I am really excited to here about Feministing's expansion! Congrats and keep up the good work!

While its a life goal is to become the sort of person who could adopt two dogs (or cats) and actually commit to it and I feel strongly about adoption, I'll admit it--sometimes I search for specific breeds like "Golden Retriever" or "Dachshund" etc. (even though I'd love a mixbreed) in petfinder. I understand the appeal of a specific breed and thus going to a breeder, esp. for an Australian Shepherd or similar breed. That puppy is just gorgeous!

That's all I wanted to say--I love dogs and that one is as beautiful as any I've ever seen.

thank you to EVERYONE at feministing! can't wait to see what you have up your sleeves...

btw...for what it's worth...i look forward to the monday posts to cheer me up...a nice break from all the stuff that pisses me off!

thanx again!

(hoping to donate soon!)

I love Monty! I read some of those negative comments and just shook my head -- then again I might be less than enthusiastic like them if it was a human baby -- but I love your puppy love!

I have a red merle australian cattle dog and I know they are very different but these herding dogs are so wonderful, you picked a great breed and he is just SO CUTE!

I'm totally not a dog person, but even I have to say that Monty is utterly adorable (though my cat Alistair would give him a run for his money).

I've read some of these anti-puppy-posting comments, and I have to say that I find their tone rather bizarre, and a little bit saddening. How exactly does occasionally sharing one's appreciation of cuteness preclude also having a viewpoint and information worthy of taking seriously?

It would seem to me to be rather elementary within feminism that a woman can express two different facets of her personality without the space-time continuum imploding.

Speaking of web ads going against the point of the page, I just saw this:
