When good posts get crap comments
You know what's fun? When you're linked to by a great blog just to have assholes in the comments section ruin it all.
And people ask me why I'm a feminist...sigh.

Ugh. What a bunch of losers, and of course by comment #30 they have already started discussing Jessica’s appearance and the length of her skirt.
Huh. It seems like people were making good comments in the first half of the post and then the trolls/orcs/balrogs/nazguls stormed in.
Wow, someone insulting a woman by using a reference to Miss Teen South Carolina! What a surprise...
Sorry about the assholes.
Seriously, more bloggers need to be unafraid to delete those kinds of worthless comments. All they do is encourage and attract those kinds of sexist trolls to your blog if you let them have free run of it.
It just goes to show, the introduction of anonymity to a conversation makes it nearly a certainty that some dolts will crap on intelligent conversation.
Frankly, I'm surprised it took as long as it did to go to looks. The downside to having an attractive "spokesperson" is that the knuckledraggers get distracted by her. The upside is... well... and attractive spokesperson :P
"I love my kids, too bad that wimmin like Jessica don't think single fathers should be able to parent their children and how that line of thinking is never remarked on by Yglesias."
Um. Maybe he didn't remark on that because you IN NO WAY IMPLIED THAT.
I don't understand where people pick up these man-hating undertones.
I hear you.
I feel the same way at almost every digg article i read with the words 'girl' or 'women' in the title.
I don't understand how some people can be so ignorant.
On one hand, it's silly to be offended by such stupidity, because if someone is going the insult, the least they could manage is insulting in an intelligent manner.
On the other hand, way too many people think the way these people think so something has to be said about it.
I would be embarrassed to type such idiotic crap, but apparently some people aren't.
OT but awesome- I am really REALLY glad to see the link to atrulyinconvenienttruth.org
Somebody needs to start bringing the banhammer down over there.
it's funny, that automatic jumps, judgements and assumptions they make about jessica w/ their gripes and insults...obvious that they react first, and maybe never read anything that was written or presented. jessica is single since she doesn't want to marry? did she even say that? does it even matter? she is a feminist, so she shouldn't be attractive?
and what was w/ the guy telling her "do as much housework as you feel and shut the fsck(sic) up about it"? huh?
the article as about a feminist issue, so the women in the study must be feminists who "bring it on themselves"?
i don't get the logic?
thanx for doing what you do jessica!
Those are some douche comments. To hell with 'em Jessica, they can't even properly debate you, so they have to grunt and grab their balls, like those farm destroying monkeys in Africa.
Much like Kris Kerstopherson (sp?) to Sinead O'Connor: "don't let the bastards get you down." You're awesome.
Wow, I'm sad right now. Number one, for the fact that ignorant douches still exist in our society today, even more so than I thought! And number two, excuse me while I get mushy, but a friend passed FFF to me this summer and said, "Read this, it'll change your life." And it really did. So here I am on this fantastic Friday night, about to hit Borders with a few friends to pick up another copy of FFF to pass along to every female friend I come into contact with over the next week =)
Thanks for all you do, Jess, it may go unnoticed and criticized elsewhere, but we love ya here.
The poor sap totally gave himself away when he made the comment about women choosing jerks over nice guys. Nine out of ten guys who whine about women only dating assholes are chronically rejected dolts who think they can make up for their lack of attractive qualities by being overly nice. Maybe high-school aged girls would shun a guy just for being nice. But no grown woman would pick the self-serving prick over the nice guy- all else being equal. Apparently they think the jerks are like that from the get-go. Not sure why, given how rapidly they turn bitter and resentful after being rejected by someone whose feet they used to worship.
Not only did he go into that pathetic rant; he drove the point home by having his imaginary wife reiterate it in the following sentence. How sad is that? Just look at this as your charitable deed for the day. It probably made the poor schmuck's day, getting to pull that "attractive for D.C." nonsense with a woman who could make him pee in his pants just by smiling at him. I'm sure it gave his ego a much needed boost.
Just in case it wasn't clear... I that wasn't one of those "he should be so lucky to get a hottie like you" types of argument. I just wanted to point out how pathetic and transparent he was being when he tried to go into the "you're not really that hot" direction instead of actually debating the issue.
Bringing physical appearances into the argument as if they had any relevance is more idiotic than offensive, really.
"Nine out of ten guys who whine about women only dating assholes are chronically rejected dolts who think they can make up for their lack of attractive qualities by being overly nice."
Don't forget the ones who tend to be nice to women who prefer jerks and are jerks to women who prefer nice guys. I'm also reminded a bit of this:

"But no grown woman would pick the self-serving prick over the nice guy- all else being equal."
I sure wouldn't!
This is depressing, mostly because it's so predictable. I would love to be able to have new, reasoned, useful arguments from time to time...but no, it's back to everything from short skirts to child custody, delivered in one tangled, bile-sodden package. I just don't understand the level of rage that greets any woman who talks about women and men as if they have choices about how they behave to each other. I especially love the comment that says housework isn't a feminist issue...oops, I stand corrected.
This is depressing, mostly because it's so predictable. Imagine how wonderful life would be if we could have new, reasoned, useful arguments from time to time...but no, it's back to everything from short skirts to child custody, delivered in one tangled, bile-sodden package. I'm baffled by the instant rage. It's not as if Jess marched into their homes and demanded they vacuum. Love the comment that says housework isn't a feminist issue...oops, I stand corrected.
unfortunately, this attitude is alive and well. I went to a friend's party (not my crowd but I wanted to get out of the house) and I got called a "ho" and was told I am "just mad because (I) don't get enough dick". (how would that even work, logically?)
The reason he said this? I told him not to be a douche because he flipped me off when I was moving my vehicle so other people could get out.
Anyway, my point is that this attitude is instilled at a young age and sometimes when you think it's getting better it's probably just because you usually hang out in more intelligent circles.
Nasty, nasty little boys. Rude, crude, loud and brash. Insensitive, unkind, thoughtless, cruel. Slavering beasts every one of them. Worthless, utterly worthless.
There, now that we've taken care of that once and for all, let's move on, shall we? (whew!)
Why do we always have to talk about the boys? Over, and OVER, and OVER AGAIN.
It's like we just can't let go.
Wow, what a sad scene over there. Very depressing. They even gave you a nickname now, Jessica.
After all that negativity, I just felt compelled to add another thank you, Jessica, for everything you're doing. They are just proving the need for it.
these are dudes who for whom the baseline for feminine attractiveness begins and ends with ann coulter.
I mean, not even Dana Parino--way hotter, actually does something for a living. I'd say their place in the patriarchy is suspect, because gentlemen don't act like that.
Mina - "I just don't understand the level of rage that greets any woman who talks about women and men as if they have choices about how they behave to each other."
Well put! And Jessica, warm gratitude and respect for doing what you do. Many thanks.
Posititvity first: Jessica, you rule, they drool. Between your book and this community, you do far more good than those idiots can dream of doing.
And now, the negativity: do these guys really not get the Colbert Report? Do they think the guy that used to write for Strangers With Candy really is a stuffy, effete Republican cheeseball?
I mean, there's dumb and then there's DUMB.
What a bunch of losers! Thanks for everything Jessica. We need more women like you in the world.
Yeah, Matt's comment section is always pretty dire. Steve Sailer is a regular commenter, IIRC.
