Time to pack our things, gals

So you know how we've been doing all this work on feminism and highlighting women who do feminist activism? Turns out it's totally passé.

You don't hear the F-word so much these days...How often, after all, do you hear the word feminism these days outside the Guardian women's page? We have, it seems, moved on.

We have? Shit.

Well, it's been fun! Guess I don't have to read this blog anymore! So great that everything we've wanted hasinvolov been accomplished!

Seriously though, is the argument there really that since feminism, and feminists themselves, have changed over the past 30 years, that means feminism is dead? Doesn't it just mean that those involved and the movement itself has evolved as our rights change?

I like this part:
"Segal recalls campaigning for "basic women's rights" - for better childcare, reproductive rights and against violence against women."

And now that all of those issues are settled, we can all go home! Good work, ladies!

And just yesterday, when my personal trainer asked how I knew a particular women's health fact, I responded 'Well, I'm a feminist, so I read about these kinds of things.' How outre of me!

Did anyone see that new game show, The Power of 10? The contestant tries to guess within a range how many people answered a particular way in a survey. The question was, how many American women consider themselves feminists? The answer was, I think, 29%.

It makes me sad.

If you start running now Jessica you may catch up to them, where ever it is they've moved on to;)

This culture still sucks for women. The options for dealing with that are still either some form of internalized, self-loathing passivity or feminism.

Crap! Does this mean my subscription to Man-Haters Monthly is no longer valid?

Stacy, I'm pretty surprised it's that high.

I hear it about 957 times a week, Herald. So fuck you. You may be living in some Eisenhower-era fantasy bubble, but the rest of are still living in the real world, where equal rights are important.

No you've got it all wrong. If she wants to catch up to them she's got to run backward.

I'm really not sure what the article is trying to say. It doesn't seem to say much at all, really (other than that feminism is, apparently, dead). And did anyone notice that the "An evolution in three decades" list at the end skips from 1979 to 2000? What happened to the 80s and 90s?

Ha ha. So true:)

SarahMC, well, consider that about 25% of the population will agree with just about anything. These days we are mostly seeing that 25% of the Bush-loving population, but I would guess there's about 25% on the other end as well. So we get the 25% who will agree with just about any statement, and then another 4% who I guess really are feminists.

On the upside, there was another question asking women if they would plant a GPS tracking device on their significant other, without their knowledge, if they could, and it was only 9%. I thought it would be higher.

I'm not a gal....

Are the only people who care about gender issues and feminism women?
