Check out The Pandoras, which could fairly be described as a mid-80s cross bridge between the classic girl groups of the 60s and 90s groups like L7 or Bikini Kill.

And never forget Shonen Knife!

Awesome.

I just love how this was a major mainstream pop hit that shows them, at all times, just being goofy, not sexy. I mean, they're even fully clothed in the pool scene. It's amazing.

And OMG, the Pandoras?!! Amazing.

I know. Isn't it crazy how that seems revolutionary today? Fuckin' hell.

What a fabulous, fun video and what a great song. I also really love the version by Fun Boy Three. Anyone familiar with that one?

At first, when I saw the title of the post, I thought you were going to post a video by the All Girl Summer Fun Band! I'm always here to big up indie pop artists. Yay for them.

awww--I love The Go-Gos. Belinda Carlisle created a dance legacy with her flailing arms moves. Nice trip down memory lane.

Aww...I used to play in an all-girl band and we covered this song.

haha, they totally stopped at a store called TRASHY LINGERIE. I wonder if that place was real and if it still exists??

I thought it was All Girl Summer Fun Band, too! My favorite is Dear Mr. and Mrs. Troublemaker

Courtney Love used to shop there and so did a number of riot grrrls in 90s bands

Just want to say, those two Shonen Knife and Pandoras videos somebody linked to earlier rocked. Now I have to hunt down a couple albums.

Loved this! Brings back memories from (gasp!) high school. It's hard to imagine a video like this being made today with young women who are clothed and just going around having fun.

I think this song came out the first year that MTV was on the air and no one had quite figured out what "to do with" videos yet (thus, awesome videos like this). MTV had no commercials or other programming at that time. I remember staying up late over at my friends house so that we could watch the very first video on MTV, which they aired just after midnight (it was the Buggles). I guess I'm showing my age!

And thanks for The Pandoras too!

Aww, nice one, yaybrittany. I love "Later Operator" lots. Hee!

Hey is anyone is coming to the Edinburgh Festival, there is lots of fun stuff going on. These are the shows I'm doing! Do come say hi if you're a feministing-er and you'r in town. xx Cru

Not so keen on the video but a great pop song.

I don't watch MTV as much as I used to, but from the videos i've seen, it seems all the young women are wearing clothes.
