Nominate your Woman of the Year!

Women's magazines haven't exactly been a bastion of feminism lately, but that doesn't mean we can't do something about it.

Glamour magazine is taking nominations for their Women of the Year issue. Past winners include Hillary Clinton, Madeleine Albright, Madonna, Christiane Amanpour, Venus Williams, and Pakistani women’s rights activist Mukhtar Mai. This year, the magazine is looking for amazing women who make change in their communities.

Need ideas for nominees? Check out the REAL hot 100, past Feministing interviewees, or you can even nominate your fave group of feminist bloggers (cough, cough).

Do it here.

I got the call from the Glamour women today as well here at CODEPINK. We will most likely put it out to our list of women as well, BUT I have to say I was a little frightened when I answered the phone this morning and heard the schpiel about Woman of the Year. The very lovely woman from Glamour mentioned some of the amazing women they've honored in the past like
Madeleine Albright (ACK!!)
Hillary Clinton (UGH!)
and Queen Latifah (uh, ok, cool).
Madeleine and Hillary amaze me- or more like shock the shit out of me- with the scary rhetoric that comes out of their mouths. But this all boils down to a question of taste and Glamour's taste is probably different than CODEPINK's... Either way, right on and the Hot 100 is not to be missed if you do need any ideas...
