Superhero, superhot: Spiderman is pro-choice.

This is just frigging awesome. Seems that Spiderman teamed up with Planned Parenthood back in the day to create a comic about the importance of sex education--complete with an anti-choice villain who wants teens to get knocked up!
Kind of sad though that this comic is probably more progressive (and factual) than what kids are actually being taught in school.

That's awesome! Another reason for Spidey to be one of my favorite super heroes!
"My Spidey Sense is tingling! Better apply the topical ointment!"
That is awesome, and yet, Marvel couldn't get away with that today. People are just too afraid of the right wing (or offending the right wing)to speak out. It's sad that since then we haven't moved forward, but allowed them to drag us back.
*Cracks up* Spidey is so much cooler than Betty & Veronica.
"People are just too afraid of the right wing (or offending the right wing)to speak out. It's sad that since then we haven't moved forward, but allowed them to drag us back."
You can thank the conservative counter-revolution of the '80s for that.
Wow, that is amazing. I can't even pick a favorite part. Too bad no one would team up for something like this nowadays.
I have a friend who loooves Spiderman, and I remember him giving me an old Spidey comic in which he was either working with or fighting a feminist superhero or villain (OK, I have a bad memory.) All I remember was her kickass costume with the woman's symbol on it.
...this excerpt un-nerves me in the way it seems to be incredibly unsupportive of teens who choose to be parents.

OTOH, aren't there already tons of other people out there who not only encourage pregnant teens to give birth but encourage other teens to conceive? Maybe Shaenon Garrity (the author of this issue, according to the link) figured they didn't need Spiderman's help.
Hee. The part that cracks me up is the "fact" at the end, which reads something like: Being close friends with, or having sexual feelings about someone of the same sex, doesn't mean that you are or ever will be gay.
Hmm. Actually, I'd say that having sexual feelings about someone of the same is a pretty big fucking clue that you just might be.
Heh. You'd think that, wouldn't you, EG?
Considering the comic came out in 1976, its attitude about homosexuality isn't too bad.
This is the most awesome thing I have ever thing. As a young parent I also disagree that it's unsupportive of people who choose to become young parents. I think the idea here is that teenagers should prevent pregnancy and therefore not have to consider that choice. Yeah..you know I do sit in my living room on Friday nights wishing I had some money or even time to go to the movies. Spider man has a point...
To Barbie's doll 50 years on March, 9th will be executed.
On the eve of an anniversary it has once again undergone to attacks from outside the American legislators: the politician-democrat from the Western Virginia has decided to achieve an interdiction for Barbie's sale and its analogues. However, to it not to get used: as the present star, at it has imitators, envious persons, competitors and enemies.
For Barbie's half a century has replaced more hundreds trades and improbable quantity of dresses. The person, the hairdress and a doll figure also were exposed to little changes, but in a basis the combination of children's features (a small nouse and the surprised eyes) with not children's figure (an impressive bust and a slender waist) always lay. The first Barbie's creator has imitated a German doll Lille: one of foundresses of empire Mattel Ruth Handler liked idea of a doll which becomes for the girl not the child, and the senior girlfriend.
Barbie of the sample of 1959 cost 3 dollars, and in the first 12 months only in the USA have bought up 350,000 such toys. Have soon enough started talking that Barbie renders an untoward influence on rising generation. These conversations do not stop to this day. The cores of "charge items" still two: Barbie forms at girls unrealistic submissions about female beauty and transforms children into overwork consumers.
Really, happens that Barbie becomes a beauty ideal for the girl, and it does everything to become on it similar.
Cases are fixed, when 10-11 summer girls started to limit themselves in food to grow thin. Barbie left of 1965 complete with tiny pink scales on which appeared "110 pounds" (50 kgs). For growth of 176 centimetres which is attributed by Barbies, it is really, poorly. Hatred to defects of own body, leading to various serious consequences, have christened "Barbie's syndrome". Sometimes the grown up fans of a doll-blonde for years suffer from food frustration, in particular, a nervous anorexia. About dangers of unhealthy bent for to growing thin it is told much, and to repeat sense is not present, but no means always its reason is Barbie. Round modern girls set of other images "thin and popular" women: From Kate Moss whom they can see in journals, to Keira Knightley many films with which are intended for family viewing.
Sometimes, however, Barbie's bad influence is incontestable. An axiom - American Cindy Jackson whom name "live Barbie". By 45 years it has made some tens plastic operations: at first to become similar to a doll favourite since the childhood, not to lose this similarity with the years. It became known model, has got to the Guinness Book of Records and has started own line of products on care of a skin, but in its mass-media mention not as the unique beauty, and as afflicted with standards of appearance the stinker more often.
The second widespread reproach towards Barbie also is not unreasonable: she really forces to purchase. It is possible to acquire for it pets (some tens variants), a dress (or two hundred dresses, depending on readiness of parents to spend money), a case for clothes, the boy friend, the car-cabriolet...
