Today is National HIV Testing Day
Hey folks, just a reminder that today is National HIV Testing Day, an annual campaign produced by the National Association of People with AIDS (NAPWA-US) to encourage people to receive voluntary HIV counseling and testing.
The National Women and AIDS Collective (NWAC), a part of the Ms. Foundation, has put out a statement commemorating the day saying that targeted testing isn't enough. Check it out.

I was tested recently for the first time and it felt good!
Of course, when you're waiting for results, lots of scary thoughts go through your head, but I think the certainty of knowing out-weighs the fear.
The test is free here (N.Z.), is it free in the States?
Testing is free for those at university (go us!). I tried to look up what the deal is for regular folks here in Wisconsin, but have had no luck as of yet.
BTW! Just finished Full Frontal Feminism and have passed it on to a friend. It's like a crazy awesome phone tree of empowerment! Woo-hoo! I prompty emailed my advisor about signing up for a women's studies course.
I think the local health department in my area (S.E. Tennessee) will test for free, but I'm not positive.
Anybody see those articles about George Michael, who says he refuses to get tested because he's afraid of the answer? Nice, huh?
It's so sad that so many people feel that way. Just because you don't know doesn't make it not so. Even if you'd rather be an ostrich.
