Your sperm gets an "A"

It looks like men now can get take-home tests for their fertility; a new at-home screening test called Fertell is now on the market that allows men to measure the concentration of motile sperm.

While the test is being pitched as a reminder that not only can men contribute to infertility, but that women shouldn't have to do all the work, Dr. Isaacson from Harvard still predicts that women will be the ones initiating the purchase, “My guess is the female partner is the one who’s going to buy this and encourage the guy to use it.

Because it's not like the guys care about getting pregnant or anything. (Not to mention our own obsession with sperm!)

Ugh.

Anyone want to guess how long before the insecurities this piles on to weak men will cause them to lash out even more at women, who clearly must somehow be to blame if their sperm got a B minus? I can hear the stupid posturing now, and it kinda makes me wanna rip my ears off.

The NYT article is misleading. The male fertility kit has been around a long time. The new one appears to measure count and motility. It's perhaps the case that the old one just measured count. In any event, the male fertility kit is not novel, and those in-the-know re: TTC have been there, done that.

Men also contribute to genetic disorders and autism. There is evidence that the link between age and genetic abnormalities may be stronger for men, but went unnoticed because many birth certificates only listed the mother's age.

Men do have a decline in fertility as they age - it isn't as strong as with women, but it is there. If more men start to understand that they could be responsible for infertility, then maybe the mainstream media will stop harping on us.

a Welcome thing

Many times it is the men but no one know and its never right to blame each other right? Fertell may be a helpful fertility kit for both to find out at home!
