Quick Hit: The Lack of Gender and Ethnic Diversity on Cable News Continues

Check out this great report from Media Matters, "Locked Out: The Lack of Gender and Ethnic Diversity on Cable News Continues."

The report's not-so-shocking conclusion? "[C]able news remains an overwhelmingly white and male preserve. "

In the altered words of Percy Sledge, "It's all wrong cause it's all white."

It's a bit mind blowing that the O'Reilly Factor has about twice as much female representation than our friend Keith Olbermann (aggregate 1.7%, or 1 out of 60, minority female guests).

that's because O'Reilly does one of two things to these minorities 1) uses them as cover for his discrimination and usage of racial slurs like "w*tback," or uses them to launch racial tirades "safely" against other minorities like Barack Obama or 2) O'Reilly has them on to discredit them.

Olbermann is sexist, no doubt about it, but only O'Reilly needs to trod out his "friends" to not look like a bigot.

Trust me, I was definitely not using those stats in order to prove that O'Reilly was the enlightened fan-fiction child of Simone de Beauvoir and Frederick Douglass.

"...the enlightened fan-fiction child of Simone de Beauvoir and Frederick Douglass."

Hee!
