Girls Gone Wild founder off to jail

Douchebag extraordinaire and accused rapist Joe Francis was ordered to jail today for contempt of court.

Joe Francis, 34, has until noon Thursday to turn himself in to authorities, The News Herald of Panama City reported. A federal judge ordered Francis jailed on Wednesday after lawyers suing him complained that unbeknownst to them he had substantially changed the conditions of an offer they'd agreed to.

U.S. District Judge Richard Smoak found Francis in contempt of court last week after lawyers for seven women complained he shouted obscenities and threatened them during civil suit settlement negotiations.

Why can't someone put this fucker in prison? Seriously.

Reading about the dysfunctional, waste-of-skin degenerate pigs that produce pornography makes me angry and somewhat ill.  I didn’t need a news story or blog entry to tell me that the guy behind ‘Girls Gone Wild’ is a sack of shit. I ... Read More

But he is going now right? And is it wrong to wish for harm to come to him? It is, after all, PRISON.

Okay, how about, not so much harm as karma.

I can't believe no one can get this guy in jail for things WAY more serious than contempt of court during civil litigation.

Becca, true, but all they could nab Al Capone for was tax fraud -- I'll take it.

::does a happy dance::

Hells yes!
If I weren't sitting at my desk at work (avoiding working), I'd totally do a dance of joy!

The only things keeping me from being completely psyched are:
1. He won't be in nearly as long as he deserves.
2. The sneaking suspicion that he'll be seen as a hero in prison. He's just that kind of asshat.

i just read the la times profile of him for the first time.

all i can say is that thank god i believe in gun-control/non-violence. otherwise, i'd hunt down and shoot assholes like him all day long.

Now let's throw away the key.

Unbelievable. It's bad enough that a franchise like Girls Gone Wild exists in the first place, but I'm kind of surprised that it's taken this long for a little shit like Francis to go to jail. Here's to offenses that even "boys will be boys" can't brush aside, eh?

If I were Superman, this guy is one of the first I'd introduce to unprotected deorbit. *grumble*

EWWWWWW.

After just reading that LA Times article I feel unclean. Someone needs to counsel all those women he raped and get that asshole in jail, whatever the reason, for a good long time.

Completely OT, but for some reason, reading the phrase "boys will be boys" in Cindermoth's comment just now reminded me of an episode of the Simpsons where Judge Harm is about to sentence Bart to juvie, and Judge Snyder comes in at the last minute to rule that "boys will be boys." When Judge Harm tries to argue with him, he says "THE CLOWN IS DOWN" (his clown figurine), meaning he's in charge again. Pretty appropriate imagery, actually :)

I am worried that he will be lauded in jail for creating all the guys' cinema favorites... hopefully they wont like him.

How apropos for a high-profile (alleged)sex offender to be ordered to jail on the National Day to End Sexual Violence.
Too bad it's just for contempt of court!

I'm kind of new to feminism, and I'm young, so please forgive me if I sound a bit uninformed.

This guy doesn't bother me because of "Girls Gone Wild". as long as everyone involved gives their full consent, porn is just fine—I don't watch it, but if other people want to, I could care less. What bothers me is that he raped all of those women. That's just awful...too bad he's only in jail for contempt of court.

Actually, thinking about the phrase contempt of court kind of makes me want to laugh bitterly. Dude shows tons of contempt for WOMEN, but he doesn't get arrested until he shows contempt for a COURT* (i.e., a male judge). Ahhhh, being undervalued!

* I know contempt is a technical term and it doesn't have anything to do with his subjective contempt for the law (though he probably has that too) -- just an ironic (?) linguistic note.

what goes around comes around.

hey joe-- may you be treated in prison as you've treated women for many years, and may you be the wiser for it.

unlikely he'll learn a thing, but i can hope!

BlurpleBerry--

not all feminists are anti-porn. personally, i am not opposed to porn as a concept, but find much of it to be offensive and misogynistic in practice. the problem with Girls Gone Wild is as follows:

1. the women who participate are almost always drunk. some may still have the ability to make rational decisions, but many do not and are therefore being exploited.
2. it perpetuates the idea that women only exist for men's viewing pleasure. that it's okay to go up to a drunk woman and ask her to take off her top because, hey, she just might do it. and it assists in socializing women that it is okay to be treated that way-- in fact DESIRABLE to be treated as nothing more than a sexual object of male pleasure. it teaches young women and girls that it's no big deal to flash your tits for a camera because everyone else is doing it, and presents it in a completely uncritical way.
3. the fact that it is advertized on television normalizes it even more, assisting in the previously mentioned socialization.
4. porn stars are compensated for their work. these women are given tee-shirts. that is called exploitation.

I'm not opposed to porn either in principle. But I think this guy should pay for all the reasons listed above. It's exploitation. And putting it on TV does marginalize it.
