Expanded EC access in Colorado

Good news! Today Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter signed the state's first piece of pro-choice legislation since 1999. This should broaden EC access:

The law would require hospital emergency rooms to provide information about emergency contraception to sexual-assault victims as a basic standard of care. It also would require pharmacies that don't stock Plan B, the brand name of an emergency contraception regimen, to post a sign saying the medication is unavailable.

Take that, Don Schultheis.

Dave Schultheis is my state senator...booo.

Also, I'm glad Bill Ritter signed this, however, I am still weary of his stance on reproductive justice. We should see if he reinstates state funding for Planned Parenthood (which was taken away by the former governor here).

OT: pinky, you live in C/S? I grew up there! I'm visiting my family there in about a week.

Back on topic: Schultheis is a toad. It's so unfortunate that Colorado Springs is so dominated by far right conservatives. Hooray for the rest of the state overriding the Crazy!

Not to be pessimistic, but if hospitals are only providing information but not perscriptions and every single pharmacy has a sign up, this doesn't seem like much of a victory.

Bailey The Pirate--baby steps, my friend, baby steps.

obviously things could be better, but considering the previous douchebag governor kept refusing to sign this bill, it's a victory for colorado. i realize that easy access would be better than information, but at least things are moving in the right direction.

all in all, i'd say it's a good day for non-breeders in colorado.

It should be mandatory for EC to be stocked in vending machines in every public bathroom or something.
