Gotta love a little Senator-on-Senator harassment

Matt Browner Hamlin at The Right's Field brings us this skeezy exchange:

It started off innocently enough as [Senator Sam Brownback] made small-talk with Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, mentioning, in passing, that senators often take off their ties when negotiating bills behind closed doors. Klobuchar needled him about it.

Klobuchar: “Ties off?… But I don’t wear a tie.
Brownback: “I could say ‘dresses off’ but I won’t.
Klobuchar (laughing, blushing): “Not while you’re running for president.

I second Matt's emotion: Ewwww.

It's this kind of casual thing that really gets on my nerves. It allows the perp to pretend that he didn't know he was saying anything wrong, or that it was a slip of the tongue, or that it was taken wrong.

as if the entirety of one's outfit is comparable to a needless accessory of it. gross. and of course the implication that everybody'd be a li'l more comfortable if a woman negotiated in her underwear.
ewwws all around.

If you go to Matt's blog and check out the comments, you'll find this gem:

"Is there a photo of her? I’d like to see if this is a case of sexual harrasment [sic], or wishful thinking on her behalf."

Niiiiiice.

and yet, this is probably the least vile thing that i've ever heard of coming out of sam brownback's mouth.

TheSoyMilkConspiracy - Trust me, that's a troll that found his way to my site, not anything we promote. It's remarkable the sort of ruckus you get when you point out that there are plenty of politicians who are guilty of sexual harassment and sexual transgressions that don't have the last name "Clinton."

Thanks for the link Jessica.

Brownback is a religious-right pro-censorship jerk-off, so I don't have any sympahty for him. But come on, it was a JOKE!!! Jessica, you are a hot babe, so this blog does dispel myths about feminists being ugly but you still have some work to do on the humorless stereotype.

Meh depending on the situation and people involved that wasn't necessarily creepy.

Of course, depending on the situation and people involved that was possibly incredibly creepy.

Even if it wasn't CREEPY, which I think it was, it was still unprofessional. I wouldn't tell one of my male coworkers to take his pants off, even as a joke. Unless the coworker was my boyfriend. And then it would be in private, and totally not a joke.

Anyway, what would a female equivalent to a tie be? Heels, maybe?

>Anyway, what would a female >equivalent to a tie be? >Heels, maybe?
For a foot-worshiping toe-sucker like me a lady taking off her heels is almost as hot as one taking off her dress!

i think heels are appropriate since they're 'fashionable' but constrictive and unpleasant, like a tie. but since most folks wear shoes, even in negotiation, maybe pantyhose? but i sure wouldn't want m'boss telling me to settle in for behind-closed-door negotiations and take off my tights. and my boss is a lady.

now watch as i hit post only the once.

I think heels are a good comparison. I often remove my shoes while sitting at my desk -- also, if I'm working late, there's a fair chance you'll see me walking to the printer, kitchen, etc., without shoes. Seems similar to me.

Reminds me of how Strom Thurmond groped Patty Murray in Senate elevator back in 1993... he had a reputation for that with other women Senators as well.
