UN Human Rights Commissioner voices concern over arrest of Iranian women

After over 30 women's rights activists were arrested in Tehran, High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour expressed concern about their rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and expression. Arbour further urged authorities in Iran to adhere to the international agreements they are party to, specially the Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

Thanks for continuing to post about this. I'm glad to see this getting attention from the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights (a woman in her own right!). Unfortunately, I don't think the Intl. Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) is a strong enough agreement to get Iran to do anything- I can think of another country that doesn't abide by it (the US). I think media outrage is a powerful tool- so let's give this some publicity!
