The perfect companion.

You can have control of the tube and the girl! The bikini top also flips up so you can access the channel up and down buttons; it's very classy. Not only is this the tackiest thing I've ever seen, but I pity the person who actually owns such a horror of a device.

I propose someone put together the Feministing.com Pocket Guide of Products Your Date Should Never Have. The guide should include a nice photo of tacky/pathetic shit like this, categorized by the room each item might be found. With the guide, a woman could take a quick look through a date's apartment to make sure that he's actually spongeworthy.

I'd do it if I had the time.

Just one more red flag to weed out the creepos.

a friend of mine in college had that exact remote!

i figured it was the only breasts he could touch :P

Is this because society encourages men to objectify women this way or do men REALLY, (i.e. "naturally) find this shit amusing/necessary? I think that is a big difference between men and women; you'd never see a woman with a penis remote or a penis/testicle coffee table or something of the like. Do gay men have stuff like this for them?

It really goes to how men are allowed to be immature well into adulthood.

I love how tiny the waist is compared to the size of the breasts. :rolls eyes:

ou'd never see a woman with a penis remote or a penis/testicle coffee table or something

You've never been to a porn shop, have you?

Not positive Zvebab, but I believe Ultra was referring to home decor, not porn shop merchandise.

I personally have never seen something like this (flipped: male gender stereotype-enforcing product) in a female's home.

Um, I've seen penis-shaped bakery molds in the gay-friendliest section/sex shops of my neighborhood), so yeah, women have this stuff too. Granted, you'll only find it in porn/sex shops geared towards gay men, but they're out there...

I guess gay dudes are buying all of the dick-shaped plastic brick-a-brack then. And the cock lolipops. Is that "stereotype-enforcing," too?

Zvebab, I would guess that women tend to keep their dick-shaped plastic brick-a-brack hidden away in their underwear drawers rather than on the coffee table next to the latest issue of TV Guide.

Adding to the class factor is that tacky red. I'm sending this link to my techie diva friend to post on her blog what NOT to buy.

My husband was given that remote by a neighbour. Of course, that was when we lived in a neighbourhood where I was looked down upon for being a woman who (gasp) had a job. Seriously.

Needless to say, the remote was tossed soon after.

pisaquari is right, I was referring to the home decor. I have not been in every single woman's home but thus far the only sexually objectifying merchandise I've seen are geared towards men. They had the coffee table that was women's butts and legs bent over, they have the shower boobies that you can squeeze gel from and now this.

I think there's a big difference between putting something like this in your home where everyone can see /use it and women buying penis shaped ice trays that I'm guessing are used for parties and not everyday use. This, however, is probably for everyday use, much like the table and the shower caddie.

It's the everyday use thing that puts me off to this.

Female decorative specifically marketed for dashboard or coffee table display!

Shame on you for calling the kettle black!

So its ok to get a kick out penis shaped anything if its for parties only?

Hypocrisy!

Some people need to learn the meaning of equal.

The on top of it, I posted several links showing penis bumper stickers, shirts, jewelry, etc.

The mods, being so truthful as they are, blocked any postings. So now people can only post comments who agree to hypocritical views?

This is really bad for our movement.

WHOA.

A spambot and a troll mated and produced offspring? I'd never have believed it if I didn't see it with my own eyes...

Yes of course, if you cant debate the topic attack the person.

Scarlet, I believe that the "offspring" TLF is referring to is the remote control, not you.

Moreover, she's shown her ability to debate any topic she cares to.

Scarlet, I definitely wasn't talking about you (unless you are also Scilian, in which case I say -- sarcasm for sarcasm, fair game). Sorry for the confusion.

Also, to anyone used to reading better thought-out and less snarky posts for me -- I'm having a weird month or something. I'm usually less sarcastic (and nicer) than this. Ah well...

I don't doubt that some women (and gay men) have these, but what I believe the point here is is that it's not as prominent as the sexualized home decor for men. How many of these have been posted by the women of Feministing in the last six months? There was even the "worst product" contest a few months back which featured several bad commodities that were aimed to demean women. Having read this blog for going on a year I can say that the bloggers are nothing if not fair. So lets here some stories about men going over to women's houses and finding a dick shower nozzle, or hoping into the car where a penis spring is fully displayed. I smell a Flickr assignment!

"It really goes to how men are allowed to be immature well into adulthood."

I agree, but...
I suppose that women are also immature into adulthood in other ways. And maybe neither is of their own choosing? Just in different ways, perhaps.

i have a penis shaped pen that the cable guy happened to grab upon filling out the paperwork. we had quite a moment, for sure.
not a spot on comment, but i posted it anyway.

Is this because society encourages men to objectify women this way or do men REALLY, (i.e. "naturally) find this shit amusing/necessary?

Uh. I think it's safe to say that it's the former. By and large, I think it takes a special kind of knuckle-dragger to think "Wow, I've got to have this!"

While I'm sure that there are men who think this is awesome, I'd have to guess that most of the time, it's the sort of thing given as a gag, like inflatable penises.

I think that is a big difference between men and women; you'd never see a woman with a penis remote or a penis/testicle coffee table or something of the like. Do gay men have stuff like this for them?

I can't agree with this, and I find it a slightly troubling kind of thing to say. Men are certainly encouraged towards things like this a lot more than women- men are expected to enjoy porn and make blatant displays of the heterosexuality, for sure. But that's a difference in how men and women are treated, not a difference between men and women.

The way you say that, though, makes it sound like it's almost an inherent difference between men and women. You probably didn't intend it like that, but that was my first thought when I read it.

I think it's a difference in the sorts of things that men and women are encouraged towards, but I don't know if it's a difference between men and women. For what it's worth, most of the men I know wouldn't have anything to do with a product like this.

It really goes to how men are allowed to be immature well into adulthood.

In a lot of ways, we're not only allowed, but encouraged to be immature well into adulthood.

“The mods, being so truthful as they are, blocked any postings. So now people can only post comments who agree to hypocritical views?

If you post a comment with a whole bunch of links it will be caught in the spam filters. It doesn’t have to do with whether or not anyone disagrees with it.

I also love how there are a whole bunch of people around here who are always ready to jump out and scream “Oh my God! Hypocrisy! What about men? What about when women do this and that? Oh my God! Feministing writers are such hypocrites!

I wonder what the girls working 14-hour shifts between beatings in the factory where these are made think of America. I bet they think it's hi-LA-rious.

LF - I've been stuck in the same mood the last few weeks. More snark, less substance. Weird.

I think this sort of product only appeals to the kind of people who buy singing fish and...well, anything sold at Spencer's.

None of the men I know would view it as anything but sad.

This remote was on an episode of the X-Files actually. lol. Loser trailer park guy had one.
