if it was men it would be "tension in congress" or something but since its two women of COURSE its "catfight". can women have a disagreement without it being a catfight? since that implies silly emotional women getting fired up over nothing? i am starting to think they cant.

Ah, thanks, Fox. How inappropriate. I was reading the myspace blog of an old buddy who has somehow turned Republican in the years since I first met him, and he referred to "Nancy Pelosi howling like a banshee". Since I would bet anything that 90% of people surveyed wouldn't be able to tell you much about Ms. Pelosi, that whole "banshee" business is straight up gender-baiting. Don't agree with a woman? It don't make no nevermind, she's just a whining bitch who should be making babies anyhow. Argh.

That's impressive, sammy. I have to be honest -- I have no idea what a banshee sounds like. I'm impressed that your friend does.

In an effort to effect gender equality, I will now refer to every disagreement between men a "catfight." I encourage others to do the same. Once it loses its punch, they'll have to come up with new ways to belittle (and I would like to see them try... the difficulty of coming up with an original thought, though, might prove too much for them).

i think we should reclaim banshee and bring it back to its irish roots where it is derived from. it orginally meant 'woman of the fairy mound". see, doesnt that sound nicer? ;)

ohhhh see, now that is a great idea lawfairy. i cant wait to see the reactions i get. you know people are going to be like "it cant be a catfight bc its two men" and when you ask why whats the difference? its going to elicit some very interesting answers (and perhaps some blank "i dont know what to say" stares.

As someone who used to work in an animal hospital, I wonder if there isn't also a fear of angry women on the part of the catfight-labelers, rather than just disrespect and belittlement. I used to work in an animal hospital, and with real cats it's scarier and more dangerous to either get between two cats or even take on one angry one. Even an aggressive German Shepherd is easier to control than a small cat. And yes, an animal who wants to rip my throat out is probably more lethal on that front than a cat - I don't hear about people being mauled to death by house cats - but I *have* heard about people being sent to the hospital with potentially life threatening infections from cat attack wounds.

I'm just sayin' - I'm on to you, punks. I'm not buying it that you actually think women are ineffectual little pussies. All the propaganda to the contrary doesn't change that fact.

In the WIMN's Voices blog, it says:

Carlson did mention Pelosi’s achievement, saying, “You either like her or you don’t, but it is historic in the sense that she is assuming this position, and I think for women in general this shows that any door is open for you, no matter what.

I think that quote from fox is just as oblivious and harmful to women's rights as the rest of their program. Just becuase one woman has reached a position of considerable power does not mean that "any door is open for you, no matter what." By saying that, fox takes away responsibility to address any further women's equality issues. It's as if they are saying, "see, all the doors are open to women, what are they complaining about?" In reality, a lot of doors are still shut to a lot of women, and we have a long way to go before we reach true equality. However, fox is choosing not to recognize that and instead make it sound like equality is a solved problem.

Actually, this ginormous tomcat totally schooled my sister's pitbull. As the cat was sauntering away after he had won the fight, the pitbull tried to get in the last word with a whiney bark, but the kitty just turned around and totally gave a look like "Don't make me come back there and whoop your ass"
Plus have any of these people tried cutting my very large cat's nails? It takes two people, leather gloves and protective clothing.
Plus it totally reminds me of the seinfield episode where elain asks the guys why dudes are so into catfights and kramer gives the spastic response of "they might kiss!"

Ugh. Rush Limbaugh was doing something like this the other day. He was saying how now that Pelosi was "the most powerful woman in politics", Hillary Clinton would have to battle her for the top title, because women can't stand it when other women have as much power as them (his words). Ugh.

(And I normally don't listen to Rush but my parents are huge fans--Mom says he's "entertaining"--and we were on a long car ride.)

I propose that when men have these disagreements we should all start calling them "cock fights." No?

Dumbasses.

Oh, how I hate Fox News. I always relish political in-fighting. I find the power plays hilarious.

But Fox News! You had to ruin it for me, cheapening it with your nasty sexist remarks! Now I can't just enjoy the situation because I'm incensed by your idiocy! A pox on you and your "network!"

I have always favored "pissing contest." Fox is a giant pile of dung. If I could delete the option from all public TVs (a scary enough reality anyway), I would. I was in the gym a few nights ago and saw some old dude asking the two (gorgeous, young) female newscasters WHICH of them had the top story in 2006? And they had both covered (according to the by-lines) VERY serious topics. The two women, fortunately, didn't seem to go for the bait, but I was pretty sure they were robots anyway. Otherwise, one of them would have HAD to kick the guy.

That makes me feel bad for the pit bull, although I will say that it's hard for me not to laugh when I see cats go after dogs. I try not to do it in front of the dogs. I fucking love dogs, and all the ones I've known who got beat down by a cat were really sweet, and basically just wanted to visit with the feline in question. I have four cats, and I saw one of them come out from under a bed on his back legs, with his front legs swinging in the air, at a weimeraner (no idea how to spell correctly) once. That turned out to be a draw, with no one getting hurt except some breakables in the vicinity.

Didn't mean to hijack the fox-news-can-go-fuck-itself thread. Fair warning: I am a crazy cat lady and the impulse to spin off into that is overwhelming whenever I see "cat" anywhere, any time.

Huh. That's odd. I went to the WIMN's Voices article, read it, and there was another linking, stating how the Macho Dem thing might jeopardize the Democratic Party's advantage on women's issues.

Then it mentions this: As Tom Edsall recently pointed out in a guest column on The New York Times Op-Ed page, despite Ms. Pelosi’s historic ascension, 2006 was a bad year for Democratic women. Nine of the party’s top 11 male House candidates won, while only 1 of the organization’s top 11 female candidates prevailed.

That's untrue, at least on the face of it. Since he didn't specifically say "incumbent", there is an allowance for that--but since there were at least two female Dem incumbents I'm aware of in the House, and the Dems didn't lose a single seat in either house of Congress in the 2006 election, it's still false. And I checked it on Wiki, so it must be TROOOOOO.

Anyway, on topic: FOX is filled with jackasses, I do agree with. But this is a surprise somehow? :p
