Man who coined the term "vagina monopoly" runs for school board

John Bambenek author of the baffling article “You Are More Than Your Vagina, No Matter What Neofeminists Tell You, is running for the school board in Champaign, Illinois.

In case you don't remember Mr. Bambenek, he is the guy that made the astute observation that "far from being merely sperm receptacles, [women] are people entitled to the full balance of human dignity."

Narciblog points out that in addition to seeing women as so much more than merely cum dumpsters, Bambenek also has some lovely ideas about the HPV vaccine being offered to students and creationism being taught in schools. I'm betting you can guess where he comes down on those issues.

So please, start praying for the kids of Champaign. Especially the little vaginas, I mean girls.

Remember: It's pronounced "cham-PAN-yah," like Christopher Walken as The Continental would do.

I seriously doubt this campaign will get anywhere. Champaign is a college town (co-home of the University of Illinois), and is pretty progressive as rural Illinois goes. I'll bet the surrounding community won't buy this campaign; they're too smart for that.

norbiz, or as Zapp Branigan would say, cham-PAG-en :0)

That HPV article is retarded, Particularly this part:

One important fact about the cervical cancer vaccine is that it is not designed to prevent cervical cancer. There is no medical study or information that will refute this point. What this vaccine prevents in Human PapillomaVirus (HPV) or genital warts. It just so happens that HPV is the leading cause of cervical cancer.

So with this logic, we shouldn't tell kids not to smoke, causing not smoking doesn't necessarily prevent lung cancer, it is just the leading cause of lung cancer. I swear this dude was dropped on his head as a baby

I live in Champaign, and it is unfortunately a rather conservative town. Much more so than the Chicago area.

However, the locals here tend to hate the students, and John Bambanek is recently graduated. All he's known for in this area is spewing right wing bs for the student newspaper.

My guess is he doesn't have a chance.

You just couldn't wait to use that photo again, could you?

Can't blame you. I would, too.

Another Champaign resident checking in, and a disheartened one at that, since the fact that Bambenek lives here keeps getting my town mentioned. I did a little scouting to figure out what the current Champaign school board is like. Not a whole lot on the internet, but it does look like the president and at least one other were cited as progressives by our local independent media center (which is a pretty good indicator of whether or not someone is actually progressive).

Sunflwrmoonbeam is right that the locals don't particularly like students, and at any rate the current board seems to be composed of people who either worked in the district for a million years or have kids in the district themselves (neither of which describe Bambenek). And as far as I can gather, though many people here are conservative, they're not quite the insane brand of conservative that Bambenek is.

Anyway this is my home district, so you all can be assured this is one vote he's not getting!
