Cause I needed a pick-me-up

Having the flu sucks. But this Free To Be ... You And Me cartoon short from the 70s cheered me up. (The comments it elicited on YouTube? Not so much.)

Boy I can't believe some of those people. Now we're selfish for wanting to experience a world beyond or parent's house?!?! I mean seriously, How come John wasn't considered selfish for sailing around the world and not pushing to marry Atalanta? Perhaps because he can do tha while she's stuck at home with a quiverfull of kids to watch after.

Well, Jessica I hope that you feel better. Nice cartoon, it does teach a great parabole about equality. Times are changing in the town and Atalanta wanted to travel on her own, her father can do nothing about it. I don't agree with the first comment; becuase I don't think that that was the point of the cartoon.

I almost never read the YouTube comments anymore; they are generally brutally misogynistic attacks on the looks of whatever woman appears in the video, or bizarre racist conspiracy theories, or profanity-laced drunken ramblings, or religious nutbags telling everybody they're going to hell. A hell that probably resembles the YouTube comments field, truth be told.

Cheers,

TH

Thank God for Free to Be...You and Me. I gave my 3-year-old nephew a CD of FTBY&M songs for his birthday.
