Great (sex obsessed) minds think alike

Well, I was about to write something about the same story from Jessica's last post, Almost all Americans have pre-marital sex, but she beat me to it. However, what Jessica did not address is the dark purpose behind this study. I'll let the experts tell you.

Janice Crouse of Concerned Women for America, a conservative group which strongly supports abstinence-only education, said she was skeptical of the findings. "Any time I see numbers that high, I'm a little suspicious," she said. "The numbers are too pat."
And
But a fellow in family and culture issues at the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank based in Washington, D.C., that supports abstinence-only legislation, blasts the report as "an attack on abstinence."

Ah, yes. The long-standing evil liberal war on abstinence will stop at nothing. Now, stop reading and get to screwing out of wedlock, just like your grandparents did.

Those childish rebuttles from the right-wing crowd reminds me of Colbert's proclamation that "the facts have an anti-Bush agenda." Clearly in this case, the facts have an anti-abstinence agenda

I can't believe that 95% of Americans would declare war on America like this. I mean, don't they respect our values???

See it's all the Liberal media's fault that people are all obsessed with this "reality" thing.

i'm always surprised that people interpret scientific data as having some kind of agenda.

if i've learned one thing, it's that science and policy aren't necessarily related. (take for example, Plan B.)

Essentially, these percentages mean that by whatever weirdass logic fundies seem determined to declare homosexuality not only a sin, but a marginal group of deviants - virgins are even more marginal. Hence, more deviant.

Virgins are deviant.

Say it with me.

War on abstinence, eh?

Now that's a war I'm willing to serve in!

(only consensually, of course, lest someone be scared by my joke-post)

In the sensory descriptions of the city below, it is therefore not possible to avoid returning to aspects of the car. But the point here is not to sound a rallying call against cars per se, but rather to remind ourselves how motorized society inflects our senses, our emotions and our being. The car sights, smells and sounds that frequently confront us do not beckon or welcome us, or lead us to open out. Instead we tighten up, close in our ears and noses and squint our eyes as we try to blank out the persistent roary growl of cars or the leaden odour of fumes. We then operate on restricted registers of experience and possibility. The tightening up process encourages withdrawal into inner worlds with a desire to communicate less. This is the opposite of the image of the good city life of human interaction, vibrancy and vitality.
