Make good coffee or suffer the consequences

These commercials kill me. First of all, the husband is clearly the meanest fuck ever. But I especially love that the wife is so dumb that she doesn't know what a mountain is without some sort of explanatory hand gesture.

The husband is such an a-hole. Also such an absurd over-actor. I think my favorite part is the "immigrants know about coffee" accent of Papa Eddie, but the wife's "ooohh!" at the end is also awesome.

GOD! THIS COFFEE IS JUST SO...GAHH...FU...FUCK THIS COFFEE!

yea i really liked the oooo at the end. i wasnt expecting it haha

Well, you would be excited too if you finally learned to buy the right coffee - and were rewarded with some sweet (or not so sweet) lovin'. Ooooh, coffee.

A mountain? What's a mountain? Oh. A /\ mountain.

I also love that every dinner in this household is like the wife is on a date with a guy who she knows really doesn't like her.

But, what can I say, a cowering woman really makes me want to buy coffee.

[/sarcasm]

My favorite part was the perfect yellow cake with one perfect slice missing! or the way she stiffly held the "mountain" position while leaning in for the loving. Oooh!

I guess it might seem obvious to say, but this ad really normalizes verbal abuse (plus the threatening wagging his finger in her face, bordering on physical abuse!). Normally, I love to laugh at the way old stuff was so sexist, but this one has a bad aftertaste because I imagine all the little girls (and even some grown women) taking it seriously. I know it was tongue-in-cheek even then, but it also made it seem like the way a real marriage might operate. In my opinion, that woman needs to dump that man ASAP.

I guess one good thing is that even though commercials are still sexist now, I highly doubt anything like this would be considered acceptable.

Barbara P, you are so right. She looks like Marlo Thomas in That Girl where the woman was dingy while being independent. The folger's wife is like a counter attack.
The Mountain gesture is interesting in that it mimics a classic "belly dancing" move. Grocer uses it to mesmerize wife into making the buy while teaching her how to please her husband. Wife uses the move on husband and even though she's awkward, she earns an immediate oooo producing counter move from the batterer.

Um. Wow.

Gotta love how the media plants these subtle (or not so subtle) ideas in viewers' heads. The image of the man pointing his finger at the woman, for example. It's absolutely disgusting.

sometimes it feels GREAT to be in the advertising industry. such a fine, rich history. actually, some of the new stuff i see on ad blogs isn't much better than that Foldger's spot..

That "wife" reminds me of one of the women that was just on Wife Swap the other night.

In a city like Tokyo which functions also as the country's capital, the city alone is not always responsible for the maintenance of all the various facilities within it, and the cooperation of the National Government becomes necessary. Despite the fact that construction of many new games sites in Tokyo was dictated by the lack of adequate sports facilities in the city, it was not always feasible to find suitable available land for facilities within the capital. It became necessary then to obtain the cooperation of nearby prefectures and cities in order to ensure appropriate and adequate facilities.

Under these circumstances, as well as from the standpoint of the problem of responsibility for their uses and maintenance in the future, the preparations for the Olympic Games facilities involved four parties: the National Government; Tokyo Metropolitan Government; adjacent Prefectures and Cities; and a number of private organizations.

Facilities which could afterwards be used on a national scale for National events were constructed by the National Government, while the construction of those which would later be adapted for various activities of the citizens of Tokyo were undertaken by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The prefectures or cities constructed facilities also with a mind to their future adaption for use by the regional residents, while the private organizations constructed facilities to meet their own specific respective needs.

Selections of facilities from among the existing ones, or decisions on plans for new facilities were made after studying the existing facilities and available land in and around Tokyo. Having first made selections from the operational standpoint, the final decisions were then reached after taking into account all the other factors involved. One of the important considerations was of course the distance between the villages and the games sites: it was absolutely essential that the games sites could be reached from the village not only within a practicable period of time, but a further factor to be considered was that this must always be same period of time if the smooth operation of the games were to be assured and stable physical and spiritual well-being of the athletes maintained. It was decided to limit the travelling time required to 40 minutes irrespective of what means of transportation were used. From the operational standpoint, it was also decided to in principle prevent the facilities from being scattered over too wide an area, but rather to have them as close together as possible in a number of districts in groups. It was possible, with the exception of the road events, to have 13 out of the 30 games sites grouped together at three places: the Meiji Olympic Park, the Yoyogi Sports Centre and the Komazawa Sports Park.

Economy also was another important condition. Maximum use was made of the existing facilities, or their improving or repairing where possible. Plans for the construction of new facilities were approved only after it became absolutely clear that the existing facilities would in fact be inadequate.
