Quote of the day
“Bob Sherwood’s seat [in Pennsylvania] would have been overwhelmingly ours, if his mistress hadn’t whined about being throttled.
Grover Norquist, head of Americans for Tax Reform, speaking about Rep. Sherwood's mistress who locked herself in a bathroom and called 911 claiming that the Congressman was hitting her and trying to strangle her. (You know, "whining.")

Yeah, she's a big whiner all right. Those poor Rethuglicans can't seem to escape the misogynist label no matter how much misogyny they ooze via policy and behavior. Same is true of their reputation as racists, they just keep getting pidgeonholed that way, through no fault of their own. What is up with that?
It must be the media's fault.
Appalling. And you know they're just itching to blame Clinton for this, too.
Let's throttle Norquist. Talk about a fucking whiner.
I guess if she only hadn't moved her throat into the same space as his hands, there would have been no problem, right Grover?
Just in purely political terms, even if Sherwood had won his race, the GOP would have to have won how many more seats to keep their majority?
It was an ass kicking, Grover.
It looks like Grover's fantasies about drowning things in bathtubs may extend beyond the metaphorical. Put down that worn copy of Fatal Attraction, Grover!
Yeah, that's just disgusting. I look forward to hearing Norquist denounced and shunned by "conservative feminists."
Since when have "conservative feminists" cared about domestic violence?
Cheers,
TH
Yeah, I was being sarcastic. I don't expect many conservatives to call this what it is.
Yes, Republicans have a corner on misogyny. Let's all forget about Chappaquiddick and the numerous, numerous tales from the Kennedy compund. Or the Clinton administration.
I agree that Norquist is a bumbling, mumbling moron, but let's keep the topic on target.
Okay, DravenStele, I may have missed it. Which prominent conservatives have censured Norquist for this comment? Which have said they refuse to work with him anymore after this?
And by the way, adultery isn't misogyny.
Republicans misogynist policies affect the entire female populace. The personal lives of Clenis and the Kennedys only affect a handful of women.
The first step in getting a city back on its feet is to regain a sense of self, and psychological factors play an important role. Change processes initially cause places to lose their self-confidence as those things that are distinctive about them and the tried and tested ways of doing things are shown not to work.
This might range from industrial decline, the loss of services or the brain drain of the more gifted leaving town. Gijon in Spain took two decades to regain some confidence after the loss of its shipyards, coal industry and role as a port city; Glasgow’s re-emergence from its slow decline stretched many decades, as did that of Pittsburgh.
