Planned Parenthood lawyer talks about Supreme Court case

Listen to Planned Parenthood senior attorney, Eve Gartner, who is arguing Gonzales v. Planned Parenthood (the "partial birth" bullshit) before the Supreme Court.

Gartner gives an interview on the Supreme Court steps--she talks about the history behind the case and shares her reactions and thoughts...check it out.

UPDATE: Sorry, I originally embedded the podcast, but it restarting everytime I refreshed the page was making me fucking insane.

Jessica and pro freedom peoples of the world,

We must reframe the debate in the context of what it is. Freedom of religion for individuals vs the moral tyranny of the religious right. It is very clear that Bush, Delay, the Pope, Frist, etc, who oppose abortion, do so because their belief is that life begins at conception. However, 25% or more of conceptions are spontaneously aborted without intervention and there is no scientific way to verify the timing of the beginning of life. The First Amendment and the entire Bill of Rights, is designed to protect individuals from the power of the government and even from a majority. All women must stand up and be counted and Bush and his moral empire must be told that morals and religion are individual beliefs and must not be codified in law.

Ugh. The lawyer who is defending the pro-choice side annoyed me. She played right into their hands by saying that "partial birth abortions" are medically necessary for such and such reasons. UGH. It's not up to the government to decide if a medical procedure is medically necessary! It's up to a woman's doctor or other medical professional! Creating a law that bans any medical procedure interferes with the patient/doctor relationship and makes it impossible for the doctor to make the right and sometimes life saving decisions for his patient. UGH. How come no one gets this!!!!!!!!

This drives me batshit. I don't suppose there's a transcript laying around somewhere? I don't necessarily expect people to automatically think of deaf folk, but surely there's plenty of hearies without decent speakers?

BEG, I'm emailing PP and asking them for a transript now...

Thanks! And sorry about the double post, thanks for cleaning that up too.
