SD paper polls readers on abortion ban
The Argus Leader, the largest paper in South Dakota, has a poll on their website asking readers if they think the state should push for another abortion ban--one with rape and incest exceptions.
I heard from some folks that the anti-choice people in SD have a habit of flooding the polls on the paper's website...so go give them a run for their money.

I'm not seeing the poll...am I blind?
it took me a minute too, it's on the right under "your voice" headline
61% and counting
I added my vote to the "no" side, but the question is a little ambiguous.
"Should the Legislature consider an abortion ban with rape and incest exceptions? "
Could be taken as should they try the abortion ban with the acceptions, or should they try again as is, in addition to our interpretation of not at all.
I agree with Afaeyre. The question is too ambigious. What are they really trying to ask?
They should have several more choices to choose from...oh what, they dont want us to have a choice....kind of ironic!
you're evil.
loving it!
up to 62.3%. Will cross-post!
thanks, lady!
Why do small papers like that always have such poorly designed websites?
Will they be able to tell that so many votes are coming from out of state? Or is that what pro-ban folks have done previously?
Speaking of which, is there any sign yet of what's going to happen with the illegal out-of-state contributions? Is the out-of-state interference going to turn people in the state against the anti-choicers? I think I've only known one person from South Dakota in my life, but the Midwest/Plain states seem like places where outside interference would be resented strongly enough to override locals' opposition to abortion. Any word on whether this is happening at all?
The poll question was in response to a suggestion in the news that they might try to now pass on with exceptions, thinking the public might buy it. That was the crux of the poll.
The illegal contributions came most likely from an in state individual. The same one that tried to give the state a million dollars for the legal case (before we put it to a vote) to head through the courts. The state officals are still working on it. Now that the election is over they are still today telling the media they are pursuing this. It was days before the election and state government out here is not large so limited resources. Both officials have said he is flat guilty and they have enough evidence in his comments to the media to probably charge him.
Oh, the anti abortion people were sending the polls to people out of state to stack the online votes. The newspaper doesn't care. They were asked to fix the script numerous times to allow only one vote. Turn about is fair play.
Thanks, SDstuck. Do you foresee a new ban being put to a vote, or no?
