And now unto something relevant to this article from my comments. Assuming that the study is true, not saying it is, not saying it isn't, that's for animals. In my opinion- as in nothing to support it, just my thoughts- humans have built up some psychological aspects to mating and such, and with this society, promiscuity (sp?) is generally frowned upon. Just because it may have worked for animals, doesn't mean it'll work for humans. Too many problems, both physical and psychological, for it to work. I don't know if this was trying to imply that the same would work for humans, but, unless we change our society to an animalistic one, it most likely won't work. And when I say 'it', I mean the chances of us finding out or anyone trying to find out. As far as for animals, it does sound like it'll work. Survival of the fittest and Darwin and such. But, maybe I'm wrong.

You can research "sperm competition" in human beings and find that this is nothing new. Human females have been "promiscious" for thousands of years and the whole idea of monogamy, while beneficial in most aspects, is a man made concept egged on by religion.

I have a friend who is a nurse and she watched a video that showed human sperm battling other sperm, even in some cases canabalizing opposing sperm (it was gross). This is all apart of human evolution and is even the basis for why the male penis is the size that it is, which is, porportionally much larger than it needs to be for monogamous relationships.

The Discovery Channel has run The Science of Sex and it details how human males will often produce more sperm when they are away from their female partners on a deeply rooted subconscious (sp) fear that she is cheating on him while away. He produces more sprem in order to combat whatever possible sperm might have gotten into her, so to speak.

Like I said, this study is nothing new and it works the same for human females with the best possible sperm winning out. After all, we are, in fact still ANIMALS. Just really smart ones.

Oh yeah, The physical problems (i.e. disease) can be dealt with in a number of ways, particularly (sp) through sexual education but the phychological problems are again, man made, mostly from religion that teaches us that sex is wrong outside of marriage. And you will notice that these "psychological" problems only really apply to women who fuck around and not the men who are "biologically" programed to fuck and impregnante as much as possible.

From what I've gathered, the most advantageous situation for creating and raising children involves monogamous pair bonding (so that they can be raised safely) with a little cheating thrown into the mix (so that children will be as genetically robust as possible). Sometimes the partner that it's best for you to raise your children with is not the person with whom you will have the best possible children (aka to whom you will feel most attracted). Hence, much of the conflict of the past 10,000 years.

Hmm, honestly this is true. This is only for sex, btw, not for relationships. A stable family environment that doesn't involve interchanging the role of "father" or "mother" between several different people is ideal for raising offspring.

But yeah, sperm competition. Why do you think men produce SO MANY SPERM? Because only the strongest and most well-formed sperm can actually make it all the way to the egg. It also works when you add more sperm donors to the mix, that way you've just got more sperm to choose from. Through this logic larger volumes of sperm, even if from one partner, would increase the likelihood of offspring viability and proper development. From a biological standpoint, this makes so much sense. I definitely buy it. Socially, this is problematic because the possibility of offspring from other partners can cause all sorts of drama within families, but biologically it makes sense.

Yeah, pretty much monogamy IS the best way to raise offspring and that's how human beings came to be, however, like magpie was saying, there are instances where a human male has been duped into raising another man's child, which is why the word "cuckhold" is used for men who end up raising other men's children and why there is no word for that for women (as far as the english language is concerned).

This is silly, but I just had to say YAY for sluttiness! Maybe all that entertainment I enjoyed in my 20s and 30s is why I am so blessed w/ fertility in my 40s!
