Cause who doesn't love balls?

Check out this cartoon from Masheka Wood (fiancé of the lovely Mikhaela Reid).

Wood takes on the gross new Purity Ball trend. Love it. Click on the pic above for the full strip.

I wish they would have a more in-depth discussion about why a mother-son purity ball is so creepy. Maybe because it would be semi-insulting for a future MAN to be under the thumb of someone who has no power?

I know it's a cartoon and all, but when the conversation stops at "mother-son purity balls are creepy" I think we're missing something big.

Yeesh. Every time you guys cover this, I cringe. It really makes you wonder what kind of men these fathers are. I know if someone had asked my Dad to do something like this when I was girl, he would have called the Department of Mental Health. Most normal fathers, I've noticed, don't want to be anywhere near their daughter's hymens.

I agree with Sylke. If it's so creepy for a mother and son to do it, why should fathers and daughters do it? It's that stupid patriarchy. Plus, you know, in their mind's if a man strays it's all the woman's fault. He didn't solicit her, surely, she tempted him. Just like Adam and Eve. *rolls eyes*

Wood's cartoons are fun. I like how the men she draws look like they're on the verge of tranforming into monsters. I've always liked the undercurrent of forboding in her drawing style.

I made this cartoon about your book photo search. I don't think it's particularly funny, but I still think animals are fun to draw.

I'm especially disturbed by that cartoon because I'm sure that I would have been one of the girls who went to one of these events, if they were around 10+ year ago. Nowadays I shudder at the thought.

I think mother-son and father-daughter balls are equally creepy, because the incestuous overtones are so strong and obvious in both cases. (Although at least there's no male equivalent to the uber-creepy hymen fetish.) Truly heebie-jeebie inspiring.
