This video is very timely for me. Last night I was visiting with a foster child for whom I am a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate - www.nationalcasa.org). This child is 8 years old, tall and thin and healthy. Out of the blue she started talking about how when she's 18 or 19 and her thighs are fat and jiggly she will go to the doctor and have the fat cut off. 8 years old. Thin,healthy,and primed.

As for racist I wouldn't be so sure. She's Black and identifies just fine with the cosmetic surgery industry. The fact that it is so expensive (classist) simply hasn't had an impact because she isn't old enough to be funding her life.

So rock on Andi - you couldn't be more right. The question now is, what do we do about it? What do we do about the barrage of messaging that corrupts our children's self image? I don't have an answer - just a pain in my heart.

I just went and bought Bitchfest on Amazon. I feel like Christmas is coming early.

The term "cosmetic Darwinism" is one I have just added to my vocabulary for it encompasses the fact way human beings are desperately trying through body mutilations to triumph over nature. To someone suggest that human beings can change the path of nature. There are many reasons people engage in cosmetic surgery however, the main reasons arise from social or cultural expectations, vanity, and the pressure to confirm to standards of beauty delegated from beauty myths. I think it is very disturbing the way unrealistic beauty standards create a new mode of addiction. An addiction to insatiable abstractions, and fabricated "beauty" (?). Also, Andi Zeisler moral hierarchy of cosmetic surgery is very well noted.
