Why am I not surprised?

From Forbes: How To Land A Rich Man

I guess that will make it easier not to be one of those horrid "career girls."

It would be more helpful if Forbes to me "How to become a rich man". Then I could make sure that my retired career wife could enjoy her retirement in a manner we both find rewarding.

It would also be helpful if Forbes had an article called "How to Land a Rich Woman".

It has been well established by now that Forbes is wealth porn. Meaning it is of no use to people seeking actual worth while info on what Forbes pretends to be about.

It's worthless. And Forbes.com is even more so.

I love all the illustrations in the section containing "tips" on how to land a rich man - all the women are skinny, fawning, and have long arms reaching into their "mark's" pockets for the sacred cash.

Nice.

Sad thing is, I know women who subscribe to this idealogy. I always ask them (before I begin banging my head on a brick wall): "Why don't you make your OWN money? Go to school!"

"Our study suggests that women who take a man's wealth into consideration when dating are likely to be happier down the line," explains Wilcox

Yes, because not considering that, and then marrying a man who can't/won't hold down a job isn't really good for a marraige.

The third paragraph is especially sweet: feminism = bra-burning.

If a guy wants to take a trophy wife then he usually gets what he deserves: A costly divorce. And there's an old expression that says if you marry for money then you earn every penny of it. To me it's sad that both men and women participate in dating and marriage as a soci-economic activity, but I'm not so naive to think that things haven't been like this for a long, long time. Until rich* men stop thinking with their dicks this will continue to happen. In other words: Forever.

*Yes, I know that men of all economic classes often think with their dicks. However, it's the rich ones who help to perpetuate the gold-digger subspecies of human female.

This is a glorified prostitution dynamic--how to become a "kept" woman. As Jessica noted, it probably shouldn't surprise any of us given the magazine's other recent fare.

Cheers,

TH

I like the fact that this was written by Lacey Rose, a woman who looks to be in her 20's and who's other articles are mostly about real estate. I wonder, why did she foray into this topic? I also find it interesting that she is one of those dreaded career women and yet she writes about landing a rich husband and is one of her suggestions work at Forbes.com? Regardless for her motives, to me she represents perfectly the rock and hard place most career women are forced to face. She did the article probably at her boss’s suggestion but she stabbed herself in the back doing it.
