Quote of the day

So we're late on this one, but it's still worth putting up. In an interview with Essence magazine, Secretary of State Condi Rice equates those against the Iraq War to those who would support slavery. Seriously.

I'm sure there are people who thought it was a mistake to fight the Civil War to its end and to insist that the emancipation of slaves would hold...

Wow.

And Cheney and Rummy have been making similar statements about Hitler and the nazis. Classic strawman defense.

"Leaving Iraq would be like leaving WWII/The Civil War early, and letting the South/Nazis win!" *gasp* You don't support killing Jews/Slavery, do you???
Unfortunately for them, fewer and fewer people are falling for it.

Well, Condi had to be the one to say it. Everyone else in the Administration would draw comments saying that in 1861, he'd have been an enthusiastic Confederate.

I believe Dr. Rice may have historical facts on her side.

During the civil war, there were draft riots in New York City. It was not a popular war.
