Let's play...craziest anti-feminist comments!

This is too great. Remember that Stirring the caldron of radical feminism article Vanessa wrote about last week? Well it seems that Townhall has reposted it, and damn has it brought out the loonies.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Having been raised by increasingly leftist parents myself, I associate feminism with abandonment. In contrast, when I spent time at my girlfriend's homes, I experienced mothers who spent time with their kids, simply chatting warmly over tea...If a conservative woman wonders how she can change the world, I suggest that this is it: Be a great homemaker.

Fuck political participation and the fulfillment of a career. A little tea and cookies will change the world.

Feminism is losing ground. On campus we still have the lunatic ethnic studies, womens studies, homosexual/bisexual/transgender studies idiots. Faculty jobs in academia is probably all they can do. They are too crazy to make itin the real world.

You know--the real world where there are no women, people of color or queers.

I am not defending radical feminism, which I consider to be a minor mental illness...

Cuckoo!

In times when our nation is truly threatened, feminism will be forgotten and it will be our men who will lay their lives on the line in defense of our way of life, our country, our women and our children. Yes, there will be *some* exceptional fighting women too, but human nature (not the evil patriarchy) dictates that these will be rare and few. This (the open blood debt in life and limb to be called in at any time) is the reason men and only men are due the right to participate directly in our national government (i.e., vote and stand for national office).

Yeah, we're the crazy ones.

These far left feminists really have no clue as to what is really important in life - people, and especially one's own families. Too bad most of them will never know what's it's like to have a family, and true love.

Take that, spinsters!

Check out all of them; they're priceless.

Lunatics on patrol!

My comments in order:

Most guys will never change the world either. Though in his case, it really seems to come down to a matter of him being attracted to the family life he missed as a kid. I know a fair number of people like that.

The second one is a variant on the usual conservative whining about academia; really, the most successful impact of feminism has been, IMO, outside Academia where it's enabled more job opportunities for women, better pay, less women chained to unhappy marriages, etc. Whereas I'm more dubious about the success of the academic wing of it.

Guy #3 is just your typical wandering moron.

Guy #4 seems to be too stupid to realize his argument ought to exclude all non-veteran males (of which he probably is one himself) from voting. The last thing we need is to live in Starship Troopers. And in the modern age, gender is increasingly irrelevant to warfare; women don't need big muscles to drive tanks and fire rockets.

The final one hits on something which I think is a big PR problem for feminism, which is that the rantings of a few extremists have convinced many people that all feminists hate families, hate men, etc, etc. The whole 'feminazi' stereotype . Which is ultimately pretty inaccurate, but plays a big role in why many contemporary women who share many to most feminist ideals won't call themselves that.

Here is my comment that I left on that site article. Hehe!!
"I am what you would call a "leftist feminist" or "radical feminst", whichever you choose. Here is my question: Why do all conservative anti-feminists automatically assume that feminists like me are against the home and family and don't want to have children? Yes, I believe that women should have the option to become full-time career women if they choose to and can choose whether or not have have a family, but that doesn't mean I'm AGAINST it. I want to have a husband and children very much someday. And I'm even thinking about taking time off from my teaching career to be a stay-at-home mother for a few years while my children are very young? So what do you have to say about that? I'm a liberal, pro-choice feminist who wants to be a wife and mommy someday. And if you don't find that disturbing enough, here's something else about me--I actually don't have a problem with your group. You say that you want to offer women more choices, including the choice to become a conservative if they wish, and that's fine. Even though I don't agree with the conservative ideals and values, I think it's every woman's right to be what she chooses...even if it's a conservative housewife in a checkered apron baking cookies and having babies. I have always been a firm believer that women should be allowed to choose whatever destiny in life makes them happy and that they should be allowed to make whatever decisions they need to make in order to live with dignity. So to the corporate women and housewives of the world, more power to you all. All I ask is that you don't try to force your decisions and beliefs onto others, because that is what feminism is NOT about."

I think the "feminazi stereotype" was invented and promulgated by Rush Limbaugh and his ilk; women like that don't exist in any substantial number...it's just another way to scare people away from the movement.

Rush Limbaugh is a big fat bully.

Guy#3 seems like he's actually happy about men being the only ones forced into combat should unfortunate situations arise. It can't be said enough: And these guys have the nerve to call feminists man-haters.

Most people won't change the world, and it's been that way for as long as there've been people. Heck most folks I've come across in life (men and women) are rather domestic. If they could they'd basically all settle down.

This stereotype goes way further back than Rush Limbaugh. Modern American anti-feminism dates back to the late 1970s, when conservatives realized that they had to do something in order to prevent the ERA from being ratified.

Like almost all other movements, feminism suffers from self-marginalization, whereby a few radicals say nutty things and the mainstream movement is too timid to cast them out and use the opportunity to shift the center in their direction.

It's comments like those quoted that make me question the wisdom of representational democracy. BTW, did you guys know Wikipedia actually has an entry for "feminazi"? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feminazi

my dad said: don't you think feminism is anachronistic? what are they complaining about? they can play soccer...

Yeah, you never know what kind of loons will post on a website.

Wait a minute ... did I just insult myself?

Nazrafel, if you think democracy is bad, wait till you hear what the aristocrats have to say about gender.

after taking a sex and gender class in medeival lit a fellow conservative anti-feminist female classmate approached my teacher to get my contact information saying that, 'that girl with the dark hair and the lip-ring...she needs help because the way she is going now she's never going to find a man to serve'

now thats crazy.

Well, having been raised by seriously leftist parents myself, (my parents met in SDS) I associate feminism with my mother's passionate support for me, reliable love, and concern for human rights.

What is it with people blaming lousy parenting on their parents' political affiliation? Are they truly so blind that they think leftists and feminists are bad parents and right-wingers and misogynists are good ones? Maybe they should talk to some of my friends, who were abused by their anti-feminist parents.

And, thedivineash, keep up the good work! You definitely want to scare away any men who expect you to serve them!

To me has carried - I the housewife! More truly, it is necessary to begin not so, I deeply unfortunate desperate housewife who for 3 years of marriage especially did not trouble itself to be engaged in the direct duties - cleaning and cooking.

This kind of post is delicious... it's like masturbation. Calling them "Lunatics on patrol!" is easier than dealing with them, sitting down with them, and engaging in dialogue with them. But what does this post do to change perceptions? What does it ultimately do at all? I think it solidifies the thought/stereotype that conservative, pro-life women are Stepford Wives. That the women who are conservative, pro-lifers are repressed and childish in their simple aspirations.

The answers to a lot of questions are in the middle, between the two defined "crazy" extremes.

@flyinfur How is using "big, fat" any better than feminazi? You criticize him for bullying, when you are engaging in it? It's dehumanizing behavior, regardless of who does it.

My thoughts on radical feminism depend on how you define it. I'm not so much a fan of the kind that says I a male agent of the patriarchy, reinforcing feminine stereotypes or that I am really a man masquerading as a woman so I can invade and dominate women's spaces. Not so much a fan of that either.

I'm not a fan of these kind of posts because they bring out the worst in each side and amplify it and that just moves people further apart.
