Raising breast cancer awareness through boobie mousepads?

A mousepad with a picture of a topless woman is being placed in internet cafes all throughout Hong Kong by a breast cancer organization. (Pic after the jump for work safeness.)

The mousepad encourages women to examine themselves. Clever awareness-raising or too much tit? (At least it's better than this one.)

I like that the breasts are asymmetrical. I get tired of seeing "perfect" (i.e., usually fake or retouched) breasts everywhere. The only thing that would make it better is a solitary black hair sticking out by a nipple, lol...

P.S. Jess, the link to continue reading did not work for me.

I dunno. I love breast cancer awareness, but this fits too comfortably next to the "creepy breast products" line-up.

That ribbon needs to be way bigger. The emphasis kind of needs to be on the "cancer!" part, not the "breasts!" part of "breast cancer awareness".

Which isn't to say I dislike the product.

I think I'd prefer it be of a women who's *had* the cancer, though, and a masectomy (sp?). Now THAT would raise awareness.

But, of course, it'd be all ugly and shit and people wouldn't us it. Right?

Hmm… These breasts look quite perfect to me, not saggy, not small, and of course light skinned. My gynecologist tells me that regular examinations are most important for over forties, as they are more prone to breast cancer…. It just creeps me out to be reminded of massaging a woman’s breasts every time I move the mouse. Anyways, I think they are using the time tested method of using sex (particularly women’s bodies as sex objects) for advertisement. Yeah it may be for a good cause, but the method is the same.

Agreed, sojourner.

Next up, strippers to raise breast cancer awareness! :D

Oh wait. They kind of did that already. I remember a stunt awhile back where they asked Pamela Anderson to get topless in public (along with other hotties) to raise breast cancer awareness. The event got lots of publicity, anyway.

of course light skinned

They may be the breasts of a Japanese woman. In which case, it makes sense if they're displayed in Hong Kong cafes.

Why Brian? Because people in Hong Kong are Japanese?! Yeah, people from Hong Kong can be light skinned, they can also be olive complexioned or whatever, but that’s not the point. I didn’t say those boobs don’t belong to an Asian woman. People in India can have a variety of skin colors but Bollywood actresses are always relatively light complexioned.

soujourner, it looked to me as if the complexion of the hand and the complexion of the breasts were pretty similar. I understand the point you're making in general, but I don't think Bryan was out of line either?

Not that I think it's a particularly genius idea, but look how many of us are talking about it...

Don't more black women suffer from breast cancer than white? Statistically speaking? I feel like I've read that somewhere. *wanders off to hunt google*

I'd have no problem with it if there were a face attached, but the whole disembodied-boob thing kind of creeps me out. If they must go that route, then the pad should zero in on one breast from a side-shoulder angle instead of doing a general torso shot.

TH

I *still* think a masectomy shot would be powerful.

I don't think it will catch on, though, because it's "ugly". :(

I agree; a masectomy shot would make much, much more sense.

Cheers,

TH

I just wish she was examining them, like a hand in the picture or something of that nature. Something to differentiate this ad from those so degrading to women. Besides, women have to get used to the idea of examining themselves, right?

Sorry for the double post, I am still getting used to this!
