Macy's has no pride

Shame on you, Macy's!

From The Consumerist:

Until yesterday, two male mannequins, one wearing a rainbow flag, stood watch inside a Boston Macy’s. At their right was a calendar for Boston Pride, a nine-day gay pride event.

Macy’s removed the mannequins in response to a letter and phone campaign organized by a fringe conservative religious site MassResistance.

Apparently, the group was upset over the super-faggy mannequins:

“They were male mannequins with enlarged breasts, and one was wearing a skirt, said MassResistance president Brian Camenker, referring to the gay pride flag wrapped around one figure, cinched with a white belt. “It was really disgusting.

Enlarged breasts? I often wonder if these people are making stuff up, or if their minds are so warped that they actually see things that aren't there.

I have a gay male friend that resents the coverage that drag queens and leather boys get in the media, he believes that this type of gay acceptance is sometimes an example of gay ignorance.
Not all gay men are feminine or outwardly butch but these extremes he feels are more often represent.

I wonder what he would say about the mannequins?

oh heavens no!!! not a nelly in a skirt! So confused. What is it? Man? Womyn? What!?! Plese, jesus, give me the answer. Enlighten me on this abomination of all things holy and sexy.

I typically hate Corporate Pride events. But to say that two male manequins can't hang out together in a display that happens to be about gay pride. What an incredible display of homophobia.

MEMO: "We support the gays, but not enough to lose our Religious Right consumer base which provides the Macy's Corporation with so much money every Christmas." Seriously, i'd like to know Macy's logic in this decision. Cuz i have a feeling that there are probably more Queer and Queer-friendly people shopping at Macy's then Religious Right wingnuts.

Just goes to show that they were looking for a reason to exhibit homophobia (while still trying to coopt that lucrative, capitalist Gay and Lesbian "movement").

So nice pecs are the new "bitch tits?" I didn't get the memo.

Gutless. Here's a hint: it ain't "pride" if you slam the closet door shut at the first sign of a challenge. It's pure corporate marketing. Yes, I'm willing to bet Macy's made the calculation: queers aren't going to boycott just because we took down our little nod to pride, but you can bet those flag-waving, parade-going, snow-globe buying wingnuts will. Well, they can have them. I'd say I'm boycotting, but the truth is I can't bring myself to go there anyway. Now I just have a political reason instead of my personal phobia of fragrance counters and the shopping hordes.

And in MA, too, the only US state to have legal homosexual marriage.
