Would you wear this?

I hear from a few design friends that these watches are pretty cool, but I ask you: could you ever wear something called the Pimp Watch?
The latest release from Pimp Watches is apparently for women--the Pleasure Seeker. At least it's not the Bitch Better Have My Money watch, I guess. Sigh.

A “pimp is someone who exploits women for his own gain. Its highly interesting that 40 years after the introduction of the feminist movement this term has come to denote a high status male.
Isn't 'to pimp' technically a verb now after the show about making over peoples cars.
And I don't think that it's gon' end til we make revolution/
But who gon' make the shit if we worship prostitution?/
Ain't no women finna die for the same ol' conclusion/
Put they life on the line so some other pimp could use 'em
-boots riley
it's a tired, co-opted word refering to a violent power relationship. i'd sooner wear banana republic.
Since the watches are from Japan, and they carry stylistic elements of the 70's...I think the brand name is a sly jab at American culture.
The watches themselves are very chic looking. I'd wear one.
So I guess you've never told a male friend that he looks very "pimp"?
Also, you're article is slightly flawed, the latest offering is not targeted towards women, but is in fact "unisex". Nowhere does the model "pleasure seeker" mention females in its description.
If anyone likes the look of this watch, similar watches can be found at...

As immortalized in the song "Shake your rump" by my man Mike Diamond.
"so like a pimp I'm pimpin'
I got a boat to eat shrimp in
Nothing wrong with my leg just B-boy limpin'"
TheTruth, why don't you stick to posting under one name? And no, I have never ever told a male friend that he looked "pimp."
Technically, isn't a pimp the term used to describe the man who enslaves women into prostitution, taking their money, physically abusing them? Why would this be considered fashionable except that it is a reflection of what is fashionable: it must still b fine to ensalve another human, take their money, physically abuse them.
TheTruth:
Oh, yes, definitely not designed for women. Because no other watch or jewelelry manufacturers create two lines, a larger one for men and a smaller, slimmer, more feminine version designed to attract women buyers, whether or not women are explicitly mentioned. This would be completely unique.
(Did you bother to read both links?)
As a general comment, however, I'm most disturbed by the following:
Apparently, the watch really *is* a kind of a pimp, though at least a voluntary kind. :/ I'm not sure what I think of this. I'm not greatly fond of one night stands as a social norm, but on the other hand, if the Japanese are going to attempt to start building an entire set of social cues like this to demystify dating interaction, and this is just a starting point, it's going to make for a fascinating experiment.
All I know is that the watch looks fucking cool.
I tend to fall into the trap of using the word as meaning "to advertise" or "to plug"... as in "Yeah, I pimp that site on my blog".
In fact, I think I may have done so just a few days ago.
Bugger. :(
Wtf was wrong with my comment? Just because it put the blame on marketers and not men?
That’s so very non progressive and liberal of you jess :(
Actually, I went to neither of the links...
I googled "Pimp watches" found the companies website (which is in Japanese)...found the "English" option...and then clicked on the pleasure seeker.
It's listed there as a unisex watch.
Those links tho make it look even cooler and sweeter than the link I looked at...I definitely want one or one like it.
Puck,
I'm listening to Boots' new album Pick A Bigger Weapon! It's too bad so few people know about The Coup.
No, I wouldn't wear this watch.
