Has Madeleine Albright been hanging out with Maureen Dowd?
It has become a cliché to say that powerful women scare off husbands and lovers. Do you think it is true?
I don't think I ever would have been secretary of state if I had stayed married. But I loved being married. I was married for 23 years. I was very sorry when it ended. Will you marry again?
I doubt it.Why not?
Why?Companionship?
I have lots of companionship. I am about to be 69 years old, and I have three daughters, three sons-in-law and six grandchildren. I am not looking to meet men. I also truly can't imagine who is out there who might be interested in someone like me. I'm intimidating, don't you think?I wouldn't want to have to arm-wrestle you.
I work out three times a week, and I can leg-press up to 400 pounds.
The fact that she doesn't see any need to get remarried? Awesome.
The fact that she doesn't think anyone would be interested in her because she's a powerful, accomplished woman? Sad.

What depresses me is that this is true of so many guys--witness the insecure bozos who troll on this site. The fact that Secretary Albright thinks they represent any kind of male consensus, though, kind of tells me why there aren't more women in the upper echelons of our government and military-industrial complex. Because if she'd worked in, say, the American Red Cross or Amnesty International or the ACLU or somewhere else where feminist men hang out, I can't believe she'd feel that way about herself.
I can't get angry at her. She's clearly been treated horribly. That someone in her position is not having members of the opposite sex throwing themselves at her, a la the experiences of our last president, speaks to something really, really icky about where American culture is right now, and where it will probably be for some time to come.
What I want to say to Albright and Dowd and other folks who say stuff like this--but usually don't, because perceived desirability is a damned unfeminist standard too apply to oneself--is that I am thoroughly uninterested in any woman who is not completely equal to me--self-assured, assertive, powerful, kicking butt and taking names.
Which is the main reason I don't date, go to the bar/club scene, etc. The woman I want to settle down with isn't out there looking for men, judging herself based on what she believes men might think of her, and so on.
Cheers,
TH
I think the fact that a "younger" artist like Pink felt compelled to come out with a song like "Stupid Girls" says that there is still a very big part of our culture that tells young ladies they have to dumb down or play stupid in order to be desireable to men.
Just like part of our culture says a man has to be rich tall good looking with a full head of hair and a giant penis.
That’s what ALL WOMEN want.
It must be since ALL MEN want dumb frial little waifs of women?
Its not marketing or capitalism, NOOOOOO, blaming these things will only create change, better to blame men; it helps inspire feelings of superiority.
hujo, you described my boyfriend so perfectly. but i picked him because he's also smart, which was not on your list.
no one was blaming men for ms. albright's plight. they should. MOST men don't go looking for smart women. they go looking for hot women. that's pretty stupid, given the fact that smarts last so much longer.
don't believe that men care mostly about looks? see whether the fat old men on your next bus trip hit on the quiet old ladies reading interesting books, or the high school girls with lots of make-up on.
Yes and ugly, fat, bald, old or short guys are beating hot young girls away with a stick?
Check out who girls check out!Wow! The Girls check out hot guys! Those Misandrists!
Personaly it is my belief that the ugly are more opressed than any group in our culture.
So guys should look for someone like Albright instead of someone they are attracted to? Why? Sex is about attraction, not what books you've read.
I'm curious, would any of the self proclaimed lesbians who read this blog be attracted to her?
A relationship for me is not about competing levels of accomplishment but mutual attraction, and how accomplished my girlfriend is by standard social measures generally has nothing to do with that.
On the other hand I've never been attracted to older women. I don't think I could go for Maureen Dowd or Madeleine Albright not because they're "powerful, accomplished women" but because they're OLD. This doesn't seem too unusual... Am I completely off base here? Most young, attractive women haven't had enough time in their lives to get a six figure salary. What confuses me is how young women could be attracted to old guys like Nelson Rockefeller, or are they just doing it for the status/money?
Anyways, if relationships are all about sexual attraction what happens when you reach your 50's and your spouse is no longer attractive?
I feel that I've lost a lot of time by befriending guys, who were older, but that I was unattracted to. They were just after me cause I was younger and good-looking when push comes to shove. I will never befriend old, balding, obese guys again. I totally have to be superficial about this, because quite frankly, I don't trust these guys. They will just want to bed me, and I don't want that. If they want to be with someone that looks good, then they better shape up. I'm tired of hearing it's superficial. If it's superficial for a good looking female to like good looking guys, then don't say she's being superficial, if you're fat and bald, but you're going after her! And why have in the past obese guys called females, who are a little chunky fat? I mean, look at yourself!!!! Wow, I'm glad I found this website. I'm just airing out ALL of my negative feelings that have built up over the past 13 years. Good Night ! (:
PS Feminists should be allowed to be sexy too. I'm tired of women having to look like men in order to be taken seriously. Women on the news shouldn't have to cut their hair if they don't want
