Because the commodification of sex is wrong

Unless it's for marriage. Then it's virtuous. Duh.

I don't get it. What's the lie? That you can have sex before marriage? Seems theoretically possible to me.

Sierra: I was wondering that too. I guess the lie is that there's nothing bad/wrong about premarital sex?

I read an article recently in which a minister was saying that the Bible doesn't actually talk about/condemn PREmarital sex, only EXTRAmarital sex. This minister is a "normal" guy with a regular, mainstream protestant religion.

Can I cash in my Virginity Voucher with the gitl in the "Support Feministing T-shirt" add?

Abstinence: You're Worth It. Yeah, because according to these people, if you don't have a factory-fresh, shrinkwrapped vagina (with that new vagina smell!), you're not worth jack. I shudder at the thought of men thinking that they're "entitled" to a new vagina, or the thought that rape and incest victimes will be shunned and blamed because they're not "pure." Oh wait...

Jeezuz, I hate this stuff - it just reduces us all. Women are reduced to witholding nags who make a man "work" for her, and men are reduced to pathetic dogs who slobber and beg for their "prize."

And let's not take into account human chemistry - if abstinence was law, then we'd see 16-year-olds getting married left and right just so they could get laid.

We are more than life support for our penises and vaginas.

And it doesn't even come with a side of fries...

(Love the way that her head is cut off, with the focus on the cleavage of this "pure" "unsexualised" woman. She's all body.)

Thats ... disturbing.

Your site and Pandagon's have me all spooled up, I swear. My own blogrant on this topic is longer than most others, probably because I have a 13-year-old daughter who is facing this shit now. GAH.

Once you survive the insanity of your 13-14, she will be just fine ... don't be taken in by all the bullshit that dictates that school, peer group pressure ad nauseam have more of an impact than you, they don't. Honesty with a capital H sans one's own prejudices and belief systems, candor, approachability, consistent attitudes, the willingness to admit one's failings and most of all trust ie the trust of intention, not the trust of action, over-ride all.

But as I said, once you survive the next year, scoff not, 'cause they really are insane.

First of all to dispel the lie that fornication is not banned in the Bible:

1 Corinthians 5:1 It is absolutely heard, that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as the like is not among the heathens; that one should have his father's wife.

1 Corinthians 6:13 Meat for the belly, and the belly for the meats; but God shall destroy both it and them: but the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.

1 Corinthians 6:18 Fly fornication. Every sin that a man doth, is without the body; but he that committeth fornication, sinneth against his own body.

1 Corinthians 10:8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed fornication, and there fell in one day three and twenty thousand.

here's a bunch more:

And your point would be?

Have you read any of the other comments? It was in relation to Angelas comment, not to this topic. Christ, don't get so worked up over nothing.

Zaij: To whom were you referring?

[0+]  Zaij said:

You.

Where did you get the impression that I was worked-up ... I simply posed a question.

I am unused to religious references, his blog states quite clearly his Christian based belief system and I simply wanted understand his intention.
