Of course fetuses feel pain, just about any mother will tell you so. But I hardly think anesthetic is the answer either, when medical abortion pretty much simulates the natural process ... far better effective early abortion be available without the fanfare. And if unfortunate circumstances require a later abortion, induction via cannula again would simulate the natural process, yes more traumatic but if it was carried out with compassion and sans all the shit, everyone would be better off including the fetus.
