Abortion rates are highest in Chile and Peru, where one woman in 20 has an induced abortion. In Colombia, the Dominican Republic and Brazil, it's approximately one in 30. In Mexico it’s about one in 40.

On top of the 5,000 women that die every year as a result of these clandestine abortions, an estimated 800,000 are hospitalized due to complications.
