Check out USA Today’s article praising G.W.’s efforts to integrate the administration to the most diverse set of top advisors than any president in history. In one section of the nose-up-Bush's ass article, the author says,
"Among Bush's closest aides are Karen Hughes and Rice. Hughes, a veteran of his Texas campaigns and a onetime White House aide who is now an outside adviser, is one of the few willing and able to tell Bush when she thinks he has erred. Rice, a foreign policy aide in the 2000 campaign who worked in the White House for Bush's father, has become like a member of the Bush family.”
How sweet! That matters so much more than the fact that Bush is the first president since Warren Harding (1921-23) who hasn’t addressed the NAACP.
I’m so sick of this faux diversity tokenism shit that attempts to take away attention from the president’s blatantly racist and sexist policies.
Am I the only one who gets the feeling that this tokenism is done in part to mock liberals?

Why would they want to pacify liberals? They want to rub it in their faces. "We've got all those women and minorities you keep telling us to get. Now you can't say our administration is discriminatory."

Maybe I'm totally out of the loop here, but I'm pretty sure Bush did eventually address the NAACP. And I seem to remember one of his aides saying he didn't bother, at first, because he knew it would be a hostile crowd. But I guess that just goes to show this tokenism isn't fooling any of the folks who are truly invested in diversity...
I think what this really demonstrates is that, for the illionth time, the democrats have been out-flanked in the war of images. Recently I was reading some Pew statistics on how young people consume news, and the bottom line is that, on average, our consumption of the news is very superficial. They call us news "grazers." So that's what people see- a diverse cabinet. And maybe that's all that ever registers, if they don't dig deeper. In a world in which only a small fraction of the folks are as news savvy as the people who read this site, it's GOP 10,543, Dems 0. It ain't enough to be on the side of justice, anymore...
Yeah, really. We all know that diversity is only "real" when the allegedly diverse people all have the exact same ideology.
And just because this president actually appoints minorities and women to positions of power means nothing, because it's not really diverse -- it's "faux" diversity. However, if a law school uses affirmative action to minorities a boost, that will make the school more diverse.
