Scott Peterson found guilty
I'm not going to say shit about it one way or another, but I think this is a good time to remind folks that the leading cause of death for pregnant women in the United States is homicide--most often by a partner.

Even though I am glad that justice has been serve, I have to ask, is it fair to call it a *double* murder?
I have been pondering this for awhile now. We have the right to pro-choice. We fight for pro-choice, D&E and such, regardless of the month. Nor do we see it as murder.
But then a woman, pregnant 8 months is killed, and it's considered a double murder.
Is there a difference I'm not seeing? Can anyone help me understand?
great question sara (not that anyone will read an old entry like this):
I'm hugely pro-choice. BUT... anyone who thinks that an 8-month fetus is not viable is so blinded by partisan ideas. No one here knows anyone who was "born" (i.e. miscarried) at 5 months. But I would doubt that ANYONE here does not know anyone born a few weeks/a month premature.
My own personal idea of "life?" Well, it's certainly not at egg+sperm. And it's certainly alive when it comes out of mommy. I've always thought of Descartes - "I think, therefore I am." Once the Central Nervous System is functional, and the baby is aware of his/her presence, then it is alive. This seems to be somewhere in the 3rd trimester.
(again though - no one will read this old post)...
