Wait, women's rights is not one of our beloved Condi's priorities? Who knew?
via Reuters...
Diplomacy's most powerful woman, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, has turned down a dinner date with other female foreign ministers to discuss women's rights, citing a clash with her schedule.
Fifteen of the 17 women foreign ministers at the U.N. General Assembly were to attend Saturday's dinner, hosted by Sweden. A State Department official said Rice would be giving her own reception at the same time.
"It not a political gesture. It was not possible to fit it into her schedule," the U.S. official said.
My ass. Perhaps if we were to start butting out of everyone else's business, we might notice perhaps the serious threat to a loss of women's rights IN the home of the free. Instead of making it clear that this administration does not have women's rights at the top of their to do list.

I guess that is why the first black Greek letter organization for women will be initiating Hillary Clinton as an honorary member next week and not Condi.
She also probably would like to avoid pointed questions about why the United States STILL has not signed the UN Convention on the rights of women. More here.
Wow. Perhaps if we butted out of everyones business "Sharia" would come to dominate more countries.
Also, by not signing the UN convention, isn't that butting out? Or is it that the UN is a bunch of useless, corrupt, America haters who depend on our tax dollars for their free ride(like more than a few tenured professors). Maybe the UN should stop their peacekeepers from raping little girls before they run their hypocritical mouths. Or how about just finding all of the oil for food money?
After John Bolton cleans up the UN, I'm sure Condi will find the time to meet with the people who actually want to make progress and create a change for good in this world.
tfreridge, the UN is trying to foster a global community... where people listen to one another...
and there are more options for the US than to a) unilaterally go into something and throw around mad weight or b) step out of the dialogue altogether.
how's about taking a seat at the table like everyone else? trying to work things out? listening and speaking with folks respectfully.
further, if you think that the US involvement in foreign affairs is all about women's rights, why don't you take a look at... umm...
$245 million of military aid to the taliban government ($43 million in may 2001, right before we invaded)...
ordering troops to witness a public hanging of a woman in saudi arabia who hooked up with a US soldier...
support of the contras in nicaragua ('cos you know they were real down with the women's cooperatives)...
