Weirdest headline ever

From the UK’s Telegraph:

Women are not the only ones who prefer sex in the dark

Even better is the lead sentence...

A study of badgers' mating habits has found that, like many women, they prefer to have sex in the dark.

Huh. How scientific.

notice how the sentence didn't say 'female badgers'... just 'badgers'... does this imply that badgers are a subset of women? or that there is some other similarity between badgers and women that i don't recall?

Hmm. So how many women do really prefer to have sex in the dark?

The lights in my apartment are all overhead, so leaving them on means whoever is on bottom gets to stare into blinding 60 watt bulbs.

Which is why my room is filled with candles.

I think we should remember that the headline has nothing to do with science -- just with some journalist or copy editor who decided that such a headline and/or spin would make people actually interested in reading science.

not that this is ok. (and i could be wrong... maybe the scientists actually used this comparison and i don't realize it).

What's "dark", anyway? I mean, I don't like bright lights and all during sex, but I do like to be able to see 1) my partner and 2) what the hell I'm doing.

I like the lights on. If you turn off the lights because you don't want your partner to see you, you're going to worry they are thinking of someone else.

Not to mention that if you don't have the lights on, the neighbors across the street can't see what you're doing and, well, that's just depriving some lonely people of a good time. Selfish badgers!

Oh, yeah... also, as it turns out, badgers are nocturnal... i wonder if this has anything to do with prefering the dark...
