Italian woman gets damages from impotent ex-husband

Italy's Supreme Court ruled that a man who kept his impotence a secret until after his wedding has to pay damages to his (now ex-) wife because she was denied her "right to sexuality" and ability to have a family.

Now, I understand wanting to get the marriage annulled immediately and being pissed off about the lying, but is getting cash really necessary? Who knows, maybe she's on to something. If I had a dollar every time a guy couldn't perform...

He could used his tongue or hands to please her, there is more than one way to please a woman. The penis is simply one of many.

Although the only way to have a family would typically involve the penis.

I'm glad a court finally admits women have a right to have a family. Yes, then that being the case, the society at large ought to stop polluting their minds with pro-death (pro-choice as some call it) propaganda.

Family is preferred to dead unborn babies. But I am going off on a tangent here.

Now for the more relevant comments.

The man was wrong to keep it a secret, but it's not something she ought to be awarded money for.

I wonder though, how many people (both male or female) keep sexual issues a secret, either being sterile or barren or in other regards. It's probably a pretty high number.

Somehow, I think this is in retaliation to that '99 "you-wear-jeans-you-are-a-willing-participant-in-rape" law.

What law? I've never heard of such a willing participant in rape law.

What are you talking about?

one very cool thing about judaism and the attitude about sex and marriage: a ketubah (jewish marriage contract) has a nookie clause - husbands are expected to pleasure their wives (not just impregnate them).

Read 1st Corinthians, the whole thing, and then while you're it, read Ephesians and Colossians, it establishes clear codes for the love, respect, honoring, etc, that make a good Christian marriage.

Has it ever occurred to you that not everyone is Christian, nor does everyone want to be? Therefore, we may not be interested in what is required in a Christian marriage?

I personally am Pagan, and my husband and I clearly don't care what your god says that we ought or ought not to be doing when we have sex.

Let alone what men from hundreds of years ago claim god told them he was saying - since as far as I can tell, God didn't write the Bible with his own hands, but rather Men professed that these were the words of god. And men/women/people in general are fallible. How do you know they didn't mess it up?

Also, the Calvinists were actually pretty strong believers that infertility on either parties part was one of the few grounds for divorce. So you might want to pick a different name.

Yep, even us heathanous blasphemers have read the Bible, and we frequently shake our heads when "christians" tell us things. Because clearly, most "christians" don't read the bible.

I'm an Old School Baptist, we generally don't believe in divorce at all, ever, except maybe in the most rare of cases.

I read Bible, daily, I try for an hour a day. The "Bible hour" I also listen to a lot of sermons by various Calvinist preachers. As for God writing the bible, scripture teaches, and I believe, that God Himself authored the Bible. It is the revealed word of God to man.

I also believe that the Five Points of Calvinism, commonly called the "Doctrine of Grace" is the only truth of God to man.

Actuall, man did write the Bible. Just because man says, "This is the word of G-d," does mean it is the word of G-d. To claim that scripture, written by man, teaches that the Bible is the word of G-d, is to say that man teaches the Bible is the word of G-d. After years of theology at a Catholic school, I know man wrote the Bible hundreds of years after the death of Jesus.

And not everyone is a Christian. I never realized how damn annoying it is for people to assume everyone is Christian until I converted from Catholicism to Judaism. Perhaps this was because I converted because I chose studied Judaism and chose it. No one tried to convert me. In fact, the first time I met the rabbi I had to convince HIM that I should be a Jew. I CHOSE Judaism, instead of adopting the religion of my parents. I have fully embraced it, and I am enraged whenever people assumes everyone is a Christian. We are not, and some of us prefer not to be.

I fully understand that many don't believe (God makes them not believe, it's covered in Romans 11:4-8, he gave them a spirit of deep sleep, eyes that cannot see, ears that cannot ear, they hear the truth but they don't understand it, this is why Christ taught in parables "That they won't understand")

See, I believe as Ephesians teaches, that Faith is a Gift from God, bestowed on the Elect. So if somebody doesn't believe, it's just because they're Reprobate.

For the record, I was raised Catholic until I converted to Calvinism (Old School Baptism)

I believe that Catholic theology is nothing more than the lying doctrines of devils, and I fully believe that Pope John Paul II is writhing in the furnace of the flames of hell as you are reading this right now.

Why do you blank out the o in God? Are you ashamed of God? Christ said, "Those who were ashamed of me, I shall be ashamed of and reject before my father" something along those lines is what He said, I don't recall the exact words, I'll look it up. But don't Jews supposedly believe in God the father? Why then can you not invoke His name without feeling such shame you need to block it out?

Oh and God wrote the bible and gave it to man (Although even the most liberal Catholics admit some of the new testament was written just 20-30 years after Christ's death, and most all of it was written before 110 AD)

It is not out of shame, but out of reverence.

Are you sure Christ believed in men, such as yourself, condemning other men?

The Royal Law of God, "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself" and how do you show this love? 24/7 rebuking, rebuking, and more rebuking. Everytime they sin, rebuke them.

Luke 17:3 Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.

1 Timothy 5:20 Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.

2 Timothy 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke , exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.

Titus 1:13 This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;

Revelation 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

The problem with people like you, Calvin, is that you quote the bible to back up everything you say.

The sun is bright. - Corinthians 69 verse 1 - "and he looked around and saw the sun was bright"

The sun is dim. - Zebadiah 12 verse 2 - "and when he begat his son, he realized he was dim."

As I'm trying to point out, humorously, I hope, you can find a verse in the bible to back up just about any argument.

I'd forgotten that the jeans things happened in Italy as well. For anyone who doesn't know, a judge ruled that a woman couldn't have been raped because it would have been impossible for the attacker to take off her jeans to rape her.

Anyway, it seems pretty logical for this to happen in Italy since Italy has such a big Catholic population, and the inability to perform is actually a valid reason for Catholics to annul a marriage.

[0+]  Militant Calvinist said:

You didn't specify if it was 1st or 2nd Corinthians, also Corinthians doesn't have 69 chapters. So there is no Corinthians 69 verse 1.

1: That joke went right over your head, didn't it?

2: There is a context for every work in the Good Book. There are parts that quote Satan, incase you haven't noticed. Should we be justified in commitinhg his sins because the Bible mentions them?

Quoting the Book without context only serves to obfuscate the true word of God
