Former NARAL Pres. to run for Senate?
Kate Michelman, a prominent abortion-rights advocate, said yesterday that she was giving "some thought" to running as an independent in the race for a Pennsylvania seat in the U.S. Senate.
Michelman was the president of NARAL Pro-Choice America from 1985 to 2004.

AWESOME. Is this Santorum's seat?
Pennsylvania is Santorum's, yes. As I understand it, the other major players at this point are Bob Casey Jr. (D., but not woman-friendly) and Barbara Hafer.
This is a terrible idea. Casey is pro-life, true, but he has moved to the center recently. But this is irrelevant, all that matters is that he is everyone's best hope of beating Rick Santorum, and that be what matters first and foremost. Casey's got a good lead in the polls right now, but that doesn't mean you get sloppy and start complaining, Santorum has to be finished first. He's a powerful incumbent, and the poster-child for the Religious Right. Casey's pro-life stance might not please democrats, but it's going to get him a hell of a lot of votes from independents and moderate republicans. Once Santorum's history, then pressure can be put on Casey to move further away from the right.
This is one of those times where you have to look at the whole picture, and pick from the lesser of two evils. Casey has the support of Rendell and the entire state democratic party, he's a really strong candidate, but Santorum has not yet begun to fight, I guarantee it. We cannot have people breaking ranks before election day or Santorum is going to win, and then Santorum becomes a real contender for the Republicans in 2008.
